Friends,

It's been a busy year here at ChezEM, and we're finally getting ready to settle in for a loooooooooong winter's nap. But before we hit that pillow, we wanted to get you up to speed on a few last-minute additions to 2011 and give you the heads up on what's brewing for 2012:

The Adventure School for Ladies: Comics Intensive is a collaborative comics-making pedagogical project based on my SAIC/Ox-Bow courses that create research-based comics about gender, media, and capitalism. June 4-15, in Chicago, an all-ages, all experience levels, and all kinds of awesome crowd will work with me on some new stats about how economics, race, and self-publishing impact the industry and the individuals who work in it. We'll make a book together, ready for public perusal at the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo June 16 & 17. Applications are due May 1, but if you have questions (or run an organization that might want to partner with us) get in touch!

Speaking of ladydrawers, my Truthout column Ladydrawers has been going gangbusters lately with an awesome new piece called How To Draw Comics the New 52 Way. It is awesome. Read it.

Also awesome: my Arts Network Asia-funded project Independent Youth-Driven Cultural Production in Cambodia has Sara Drake currently in Phnom Penh teaching women how to draw comics. Some of them are even online! If you like cute things, comics, women, the internet, or life itself, you will want to read and share Sara's work now.

You may have heard about the devastating floods affecting Thailand. But you were less likely to hear how those same floods affected Cambodia—even worse. Between now and February 1, Cantankerous Titles offered to donate a buck to Cambodian flood relief for each purchase of Cambodian Grrrl: Self-Publishing in Phnom Penh. Do it. Or read this awesome new review by Michelle Tea. Or, heck, any of the other glowing reviews. You good? Now do it.

OK, that color scheme might have been a mistake. Apologies! And Happy Holidays!

Talk to you in the 2012,
