Problem updating Epubs. (I think it's caused by the calibre changing the date modified for the epubs)

Yeah, so I've been going through the In-Progress stuff in my calibre library, and on several occasions I've gotten the "Not Overwriting, web site is not newer." error when I know that there are new chapters available. I'm only updating stuff from Fanfiction.net, so I don't know if it affects other sites as well.

I normally have the FFDL set to "Output Format" of "epub", with the "Update Mode" set to "Overwrite if Newer". I've found that I can still download epubs normally if I just set the "Update Mode" to "Overwrite Always".

Looking into it, it seems that when you open an epub using the Calibre reader, after you then close the reader, the epubs Date Modified field is updated to the current date/time. I'm assuming that FFDL just checks the date modified field and then compares it to the update date on Fanfiction.net

"Overwrite if Newer" compares the timestamp of the ebook file on disk
(epub in this case) to the last updated date on the web site.

In the calibre reader, one of the options is General->Misc->Remember the
current page when quitting. When that is turned on calibre saves your
current page inside the epub, updating the file's timestamp. (I have no
idea why calibre does that--it remembers your place in mobis without it.)

I don't remember the exact details off hand, but as I recall the
standard calibre column for date is automatically updated when you
perform certain actions and wasn't a good candidate for comparing.

So while it's not acting like you might want, it is operating as
designed. Sorry.

"Update EPUB if New Chapters" gets around this by comparing the number
of chapters instead.

Eh, I figured it was Calibre mucking up something, and just wanted to let you know in case there was a problem. I don't normally download in-progress fanfiction, so this was the first time I've come across the issue.

But as "Update EPUB if New Chapters" gets around Calibre's issues, I'll just set the default to that in FFDLs options.

Thanks for the reply,
