whether I use cache or straight from the website this story no longer
downloads.
I searched through the threadmarks and the post that ends 3529 is the
sidestory post. Direct linking doesn't work, but clicking the link
from the sidestory list works fine.

We've recently figured out that some SB Reader mode pages have the wrong number of posts. And that SB has started blocking direct /posts/ URLs.
Posted test versions should fix this.

How would I download a pre-threadmarks story like this one? The index page is NOT the first post and it's split into two threads.

SB has started blocking direct /posts/ URLs with 403(Forbidden) errors. That prevents FFF from directly fetching posts. And without threadmarks, there's no reader mode at all.
Switching to Flaresolverr works for me this morning. No guarantees it will for anyone else.
Switching the Browser Cache, it looks like the code for old pre-threadmarks stories when the index is not the first post doesn't work with Browser Cache. It's specific to BC, since it still works with flaresolverr.
I've posted test versions to address that.
