Checked nodes under closed parent nodes are hardly noticeable.

Suppose we have the tree below and using [multiselect] mode (not hierarychical).

[ ] parent 1
|- [x] child 1
+- [ ] child 2
[ ] parent 2
------------------------
And if the node "parent 1" is closed, how can a user notice that there's a checked node?
Is there any way to set the "parent 1"'s checkbox partially selected state?
