i may be missing something, but i'm trying to use fancybox to show
inline content, mostly text. i was expecting it to automatically put
scrolls as it would with iframed content or ajax, but i get a strange
black background with white text, and no scrolls... am i being stupid
or is fancybox just not capable of doing what i want (it's so simple
with thickbox...)

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem here, I'm more concern /w the black background than the
scrolling. But for the scrolling have you tried adding style="height:
100%;overflow:auto" to your div that surrounds your inline data?

Ok, to answer my own question, I did a <div> inside the div /w the
inline data, and styled it, and it seem to work ok.

<div style="display:none;" id="myIDisHere">
<div class="styledpopupclass">
data data data data data data data data data data
data data data data data data data data
</div>
</div>

Better solution for the background color issue, either:
1) Edit the jquery.fancybox.css the:
div#fancy_div {
background: #fff;
color: #000;

2) add
div#fancy_div {
background: #fff;
color: #000;
in the main file after the line that includes the jquery.fancybox.css
-- although this method works in Firefox and IE, it doesn't seem to
work right in chrome.

thanks, neal. i did think of doing that to the inner divs, and looks
like there's no other choice. truth is i've reverted to ajax - the
page i'm working is very long anyway so it ended up being more useful
that way. seems fancybox just lacks this option, thickbox was built to
accommodate everything (pretty much) and fancybox looks like it's more
of an image gallery.
i'll wait for future releases before i replace thickbox with fancybox,
it's not ready yet...
