Greetings from Abuja, Nigeria.
I returned safely to meet very busy schedule in office and was unable to mail you guys. This mail may take a little while to read...:)
I thank the immediate past FAMSA President, Ephraim and his team for inviting me to the 29th GA in Cotonou. It's unfortunate he experienced some challenges and was unable to make it to the meeting. I believe my workshop session was impressive going by the feedback I received. I spent a little over an hour but had wished I stayed longer to interact further with delegates.
I believe you may have read through the Simplified version of VAPP Act I shared during the workshop. It took 13 years of persistent advocacy by individuals and organizations and 13 months of online campaign by youths to make the VAPP Act a reality. Our voices on social media made the Act more popular and heightened pressure on the Nigerian authorities until they bowed to pressure. With your knowledge and proper use of the internet, youths have the power to bring about social change.
Are there legal barriers to sexual and reproductive health and rights in your country? If yes, do you want to change that? You can make it happen via constructive engagement of your government on social media. I strongly suggest you follow tweets on the
#Choice4Life hashtag and also share knowledge on sexual and reproductive health and rights using the hashtag. You may "Like" our facebook page -
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Team-Choice4Life/731364703575521?ref=bookmarks to follow what we do and join us or start something similar in your country and get mentorship from us.
Furthermore, I commend all participants at the workshop and the entire delegates that attended the GA for the successful event. I'm glad there was a successful transition with the emergence of a new executive. Congratulations to President Seriki and his team. Be assured of my support in helping your team make FAMSA stronger. Also reach out to other alumni members to gain from their knowledge and experiences. I also commend the Host MSA - HNAUB and the Local Organizing Committee for the impressive hosting despite their relative inexperience in organising events of such magnitude.
Attached herewith are some photos we took. Best wishes in your academic and professional career. Let's do more to make Africa a healthier continent.
