Get involved in organizing the next bike bus

Schoolchildren biking in Spring Hill

Last Friday some residents organized a bike bus on Bike to Work day so kids could bike together to Argenziano School from their homes in Spring Hill. It was a lot of fun and the organizers are looking to organize another one soon!

Cities around the world are organizing group bike rides for kids to bike to school. The Barcelona Bicibús is one of the most famous examples, starting last fall and riding every first Friday of each month. NPR wrote a detailed article about it last fall and Streetsfilm covered it just a few days ago. These rides demonstrate how streets can truly support safe and accessible biking for all ages and abilities, and they can help build community.

Families with kids at Argenziano may request to join the parents mailing list here to get involved with or participate in the next bike bus. If you live elsewhere and are interested in helping to organize or participate in a bike bus to your school, email Roberto Fischer (roberto...@gmail.com) for more info.

Bus Network Redesign

The MBTA is completely redesigning its bus network, increasing service by 25% on weekdays and adding 70% more service on weekends. However, there are also some service reductions especially for people living in West Somerville.

This is just a first draft and the MBTA is eager to hear your feedback. See a map and read more on what's happening in Somerville in the MBTA's PDF, and provide feedback on the MBTA's bus network redesign page. There will also be a virtual public meeting for inner core communities including Somerville on June 16.
