To the Cobb County Family Promise Core team,

Attached are some documents from our national director Claas Ehlers including a volunteer guide in Spanish, a list of some characteristics of a successful affiliate, and a link to a cool song about Family Promise written and sung by a couple living in Michigan.  Also, see below for Claas’ status of items in progress nationwide with Family Promise.

Subject: Update from Family Promise National - August

Hey folks at developing Affiliates—just an fyi; this was sent to operating Affiliates.

Hi all,

A lot has been going on—I wanted to touch base on a number of items.

1.       The winner of the Cabot Co-op Family Promise Volunteer Cruise is Carolyn Cherwon of Family Promise of Beaufort County.  Cabot was overwhelmed with the many outstanding candidates; we are thankful to Cabot for dedicating one of the handful of slots specifically for Family Promise.  Don’t forget to reach out to Cabot if you want support, in the form of the world’s greatest cheese, for your next event: http://www.donationsfromthefarmers.coop/; indicate you are a Family Promise Affiliate in the form.

2.       PetSmart Promise:  Much good news around this; the Today Show Segment; Local programs starting to roll out.  Important, even if you are not participating in the program, use the promotional materials and the national partnership to start conversations with other corporations!  Affiliates have been using this partnership to open the door and create credibility as they pursue other local partnerships.  Go to http://www.petsmartpromise.com/ for the latest and make sure to like PSP on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PetSmartPromise.

3.       We’ve now put our library of released photos on dropbox, so any Affiliate can access them, giving you instant promotional materials

4.       Attached is a guide for volunteers in Spanish.  Use this if you are pursuing congregations with large Spanish speaking populations.  (And, don’t forget that Spanish-language intake forms are on the Affiliate login section.)  Gracias to the gente in Houston County for this.

5.       Lexis Nexis has merged with First Advantage.  Same great service and pricing package for background checks.  Our new contact there is Tammy Majette (whose church is involved in one of our Georgia Affiliates): Tammy....@fadv.com.  (See past updates for info on the package itself, or touch base with Tammy.)

6.       As you probably know, the next National Conference will be in Chicago next fall.  More details to come in the next few months as we finalize.

7.       We are excited to announce two upcoming webinars.  One will be on September 19th at 3pm EDT: Fundraising from Religious Sources, focusing on the many different ways the faith community can provide financial support.  The second will be the first of a series on Leadership Development for Family Promise Directors.  Kathy Stockburger, Diana DeJesus-Medina and Angelica Kennedy will lead a continuing series of webinars on how directors can sharpen their skills as leaders, growing personally while at the same time better serving their Affiliate, volunteers and families.  Stay tuned for more information; we will send webinar invitations as we get closer to the dates.

8.       New Affiliates this year so far: Fulton-DeKalb County GA, New Braunfels TX, Great River MN, Houston County GA, North Shore Boston MA, Rockingham County NH, and White County GA.

9.       If you are not familiar with TechSoup, check it out—it allows nonprofits to buy software at pennies on the dollar.

10.   Also attached, in case you missed it, is Karen’s email about the wonderful new song created for and about Family Promise.  And coming very soon is the PR packet for Family Promise Week.

11.   Finally, the last attachment is an updated version of Common Characteristics of Successful Affiliates.  These are the goals Affiliates should strive for; let us know how we can help you and your board work toward these.  This can mean onsite visits, but we can also do conference calls and webinars.

All the best,

Claas
