Take a look at graph editor yEd: https://www.yworks.com/products/yed
It is a free Java based programm which in my experience works great. You can open *.ged files, and choosing layout "family tree" you get a good diagram. There are many layout options, for example orientation (left to right, up to down). Perhaps this gives you some ideas how to display complete family tree in a single diagram.
I installed the Windows version and effectively it opens .ged
files displaying all the people.
The resulting diagram is quite unusable, with near relatives that
are placed far away from each other and a lot of overlapping
lines..
But no way: they are all there!
Thank you for the suggestion, it's inspiring for me.
For me, showing only part of family tree on small smartphone display is ok, but for pdf export it would be nice to have a complete tree.
Yes, I agree.
By the way, PDF export doesn't work reliably on my smartphone. Most of the time I get an empty PDF. Perhaps it has something to do with diagram options.
on my phone Family Gem has lost all connections between persons and photos. When I look at a person there is only a placeholder instead of the photo.
Most probably the media files of your tree are stored in some
random folder in the shared storage (e.g. /Pictures,
or /DCIM/Camera).
You have to link again that folder.
To do that, open your tree, then go to:
☰ → Media → ⋮ → Media folders → + → Navigate to the folder → Select it
Probably you will experience some slowness on displaying the
media.
About that you can read:
https://github.com/michelesalvador/FamilyGem/wiki#from-version-12-media-loaded-from-not-owned-folders-are-slow
now every time I add some photos I have to remember the additional task "Copy to app storage". So I would prefer this function running automatically.
It looks strange to me that you have to use Copy to app
storage each time..
How do you "add some photos" to the tree?
Probably you do something like this:
person Profile → Media tab → +
→ New media → Choose one app → Select one media
This procedure already automatically copies the media file to the
app storage.
