How to set the "Root Person"?

I need to reset the root person for the diagram.

root person does not seem to stick. If I click on a different person in my tree the next time I open my file the person selected  is the root person.???

It depends on what you mean by the "root person."  I have always understood the "root person" to be the person the tree is about, often yourself.  If you are looking at a part of your tree where the root person is outside the display, the "root person" in your file hasn't changed.  By clicking on a different person you may be changing the setting, although chico's suggested command looks correct.

Do you need to do that?  The "root person" is the one from whom relationships are calculated.  Once set, I rarely refer to it.  If it is not on the page displayed, you can still edit what is visible.

The way root person is defined is the person who is the center of your tree, probably yourself. Every time you open the program the diagram should be centered around that person. Now when reopening it centers around last person clicked on.
