Hi, Michele.
The new version of Family Gem 1.2 is unstable on Android 9.
I don't know if this is due to a change in media access philosophy.
Previously the app was granted access to storage, camera.
Now this option is not in the app information.
The family tree loads about all the images in the folder that is set in the media path.
Even those that are not assigned to particular people or events.
The app works slowly, fails to load them all, freezes and then crashes.
The Simpsons family pictures that are in the app's internal memory loaded without a problem.

Hi Milan,
The new version of Family Gem 1.2 is unstable on Android 9.

And I'm afraid not just on Android 9, but on all Android versions..

I don't know if this is due to a change in media access philosophy.

Probably yes.

Previously the app was granted access to storage, camera.
Now this option is not in the app information.

No more storage permission requested from version 1.2.

The family tree loads about all the images in the folder that is set in the media path.

Yes, the new approach is to import all media in the internal app storage of the tree.

Even those that are not assigned to particular people or events.

That sounds strange. If a file is not linked somewhere in the tree, should be ignored by Family Gem.

The app works slowly, fails to load them all, freezes and then crashes.
I suppose you have media files stored in some "external" folder (linked through Media folders).
I wrote something about that in the wiki:
https://github.com/michelesalvador/FamilyGem/wiki#from-version-12-media-loaded-from-external-folders-are-slower
The Simpsons family pictures that are in the app's internal memory loaded without a problem.
That's right. Files loaded from app internal storage are faster.
