Unviable teeth - any experience?

Hi everyone. My almost 11 yo was originally dx'd with missing 7 teeth. Over the past couple of years, we've realized from xrays that two other teeth are not forming roots. One of the missing teeth is actually showing up as a tooth bud in the last xray in July, but we're prepared for it to not fully develop either (but we're praying!). The doctor says we'll watch them for any root development, but may need to remove them as impacted teeth. Has anyone had experience with the "extra" of surgery to remove unviable teeth?
