Pediatric dentist told us in October 2016 that our 5 year old son was missing 8-10 permanent adult teeth.
I've had several dentists look at his xrays and they were in agreement that if they weren't present underneath the root now, the chances of adult permanent forming were nil.
My son is globally delayed(failure to thrive, speech, motor planning, etc) due to a heart defect(ASD) that was repaired when he was 18 months old.
My son was very sick for many months leading up to his heart defect diagnosis.
I was hoping that due to his previous medical condition, that this was the possible reason for the delay of his permanent teeth.
We had genetic(met with a geneticist who did a thorough physical exam) testing done in January 2016.
CGH Micro Array, Prader Willie and Fragile X, results were all normal.
Like many have posted, I have cried my eyes swollen.
I worry about how all this may affect my son's esteem as he ages.
I live in San Diego, California and my next steps are to get a medical diagnosis and hope that my medical insurance will spot some of these expenses.
I have Kaiser Permanente Health insurance and I'm not sure how cooperative they'll be???
Some help in this will be greatly appreciated.
Anyone know a good Prosthodontist in my area?
I do remind myself that dentistry has made SO many gains in it's field.
There are options and its all manageable.
We all agree the cost is thru the roof and with a $1500 max per year, it seems like chump change when your dealing in the $1000's+
But in the end, I'm thankful it's just his teeth and not his health.
I'm glad that I found this group.
I do not feel alone in my long journey ahead.
