Test 3: story-telling performance of essay 4

_____ essay 4 short story is told, not read or recited (20—30 words of
notes allowed but see stipulation in third rubric point on costume/
props), loudly, clearly, and authoritatively, with appropriate mood
and tone;

_____ storytelling distinguishes at least three character voices and
three voice-created sound effects—tip: many of the extended literary
devices are fancy names for story telling techniques you’ve recognized
or understood since early days and could be used here, perhaps
antipophora, antisagoge, astesmus, bombast, or braggadocio;

_____ at least two items each of costume and prop (items not usually
brought to school) are effectively incorporated—tip: use these as
physical representations of symbols or vehicles for metaphors (if
notes are used, they should be incorporated into a costume or prop item
—the audience can see the notes, but attach the notes onto or build
them into a costume or prop item so that consulting them is not so
obvious);

_____ two-part quiz created and administered to class:
part 1) 6 orally-administered short answer questions on voices and
sound effects; ex. “Whose voice was this? ‘Ahh! The monster!’” and
students write answers on paper;
part 2) 6 multiple-choice questions on audience’s understanding of
literary devices incorporated into story; questions typed and
submitted one day previous to performance for class copies; ex. When
you think it’s going to be a monster behind the door, but you have to
wait to find out, the author builds _____.
a) onomatopoeia b) conceit c) suspense d) sonnet
