Debugging on an Android device without root is another story. I have no way of looking at the logs on the device, as the different apps are using different UIDs - Kodi is using one and the terminal emulator that I used is using another and it is not able to read the debug log produced by Kodi.
First, usually you don't need root assess to view Kodi logs. Normally, they are located in /Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/tempfolder. All you need is a file manager that can view "hidden", that is, . prefixed, folders and files, for example Total Commander.
I'm in the same boat and been trying all known ways. Like apps such as FX Eplorer or X-Plore. You need to access (sdcard)/Android/Data/org.xbmc.kodi/.kodi/userdata but you can't venture any further than /Android. As soon as you hit "Data" it's "Access Denied".
Tools like the one I mentioned should get around this by getting root permission and this seem to work fine for your Android phones, not so for ChromeCast / Google TV. And apps simply ask you to allow the root access notification and then report "no tool found to gain access" and it all fails.
Thanks for reaching out to the Chromecast Community forum! Please clear the cache and data of the Kodi app and reinstall it. If the issue persists and it's isolated with this app, contact Kodi support for further help.
Android on phone use the files app. But i cant access the native file manager (comments on reddit says this is the only File Manager with this permission). Other filer managers (call intent) gives the message "no tool found to gain access".
Got it. It looks like the set up that you're trying to use with your Chromecast device isn't the typical use for Chromecast with Google TV (4K). It will be best if you could reach out to Kodi to check if they have additional information about this.
Android is an OS. Kodi is an application running on an OS. You are able to buy an Android based box and install kodi on it. While running Android as an OS you are ofc able to install apk files. But this all has nothing to do with Kodi itself. Those are completely different things.
As an apk is just something like a zip file, it would be possible to unpack it on LE. So an "installation" should be possible with some handwork. But what do you want to do with the so "installed" files? Most apks contain apps written in Java. LE has even no Java interpreter, let alone the missing android Java libraries.
Yes it is possible but complicated, why? you have to do so many steps (maybe using Android emulator, etc) and maybe it wouldn't work. Just install the latest LibreELEC on your device to get Kodi works great on the device, so simple.
Basically, I have managed to use rclone encrypted remote on android by using rclone explorer app. However, it is ugly(only a listing) and I would like to be able to see posters of movies in kodi. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.
Connectbot is just a terminal emulator. The easiest method in my opinion is to use automate. I could send you my automate flow that you could import. Should be easy to just import and auto start rclone. Pm me if you want it. It can download rclone and run it and you could modify it as needed.
Works been extremely busy. This is a very basic flow. Its super simply because it doesn't need to be complicated. It will simply relaunch rclone if it fails and once started will restart on boot. One flow to download/update the binary and one to actually launch a ftp server. You can also use webdav or http(s) or any other method you'd like that kodi supports. It works well.
Side load the regular version. You'll also need to install the permission APKs. Sometimes it can do it itself. Othertimes you'll need to sideload those as well. I had to sideload them on firetv but I think it did it automatically on nvidia sheild. I cant remember. But you'll need the ' Automate network permissions apk' in addition to the automate.apk
You'll need a .rclone.conf in the /sdcard/Download/ directory. That's where I located it in the command box in the automate flow. Within that .rclone.conf you need a 'local' remote. Just add this to the .rclone.conf
Kodi is also available for installation on Android TV devices within the Google Play Store. However, it does not feature the latest stable release of Kodi. We suggest the guide above if you want to use the most recent version of Kodi 21.
HI troy Trying to install Diggz build with different kodi builds but to no avail keep getting check your connection the thing is nothing wrong with the connection. On the kodi build that reject Diggz it accept the Crew.please advised. Thanks
Hi guys,
On polish community page, for more than 1.5 year, people have been complaining about lack of 3D button in KODI. I've done some research and found pre-installed application called PictureModeControl (PictureModeControl.apk). I've decompiled this app and found out that it lists applications that are recognized as "Application (Video)" = they have 3D switch in Action menu and 24p in picture settings. All Sony had to do, in order to allow 3D & 24p for KODI, was to add "org.xmbc.kodi" to that list. As far as I remember they had at least three opportunities to do so, as they were at least 3 software upgrades.
To the point: I've created custom build of KODI (which is based on KODI fork called SPMC). To be recognized as Video app I've used one of names listed in this PictureModeControl app. I haven't release this build yet, because I'm not sure whether I can use some company's package name or not... Is it legally protected? Or it is considered just "some string"? To be honest I'm not impersonating their app (which in fact does not even exist... I think that Sony added some package-names for the future, so that they (or some external company) can release some app without neccesity to release SW update). What I'm certain of: there is a 3D switch in action menu and possibility to turn on 24p in pictre settings.
I've posted this not to brag that I have better KODI etc. (as soon as I'm sure I can release it, I will!). I just want you to know that SONY made a CLEAR DECISION NOT TO MEET THE EXPECTATIONS OF THEIR USERS - as we can see I was able to enable 3D for KODI, which means Sony could do it long time ago - they JUST DID NOT.
It is not possible due to Android security policy. Whenever you try to install other version of any application that is already intalled, Android compares certificates that were used to sign APKs. If they don't match, it simply won't allow to install it.
Interesting. Here is what I have so far. This is true for Kodi and the Video app. If I understood correctly, you say that refresh rate does not change automatically, but there is a 24p setting in the Action menu for the Video app? Will have to check that.
I just tried it. The 24p option only tries to detect 24p and turns on Cinema pro picture profile. I don't know whether this works properly for Kodi as the TV is fixed at 60Hz and the system can't know the source fps.
Just upgraded my shield to the latest release, Android 11. Upon doing so, the SDDP connection said "online" but nothing was responsive. After trials and tribulations, the fix was to disable the ethernet connection on the shield (through the menu) and then simply re-enabling cured the problem.
Additionally, when running Kodi now, I was getting a pop-up about a "new controller detected" upon pressing any button on the c4 remote. The fix for this is to use your phone app or native shield remote, go into the kodi settings-->add-ons-->peripheral libraries-->joystick support-->disable. Click ok/apply. Force close kodi and re-open it, problem should be fixed as well.
Edit: A few hours later after a few more reboots it suddenly started to work.... I do not know what exactly did it.
Hopefully they will update the driver to take out this randomness.
I've tried that but I still can't get it to work. It does allow me to start MiniDriver apps like Netflix and youtube but I can't navigation to work.
I've tried your suggestion, tired to use the IP instead of SDDP, rebooted it a few times.... any thing else you did which might have helped?
Here is the Debug log when I press the down button:
same happened to me, need to follow these steps. 1. disable shield ethernet connection from shield settings. 2. pull out battery from C4 remote 3. reboot Shield 4. enable Shield ethernet connection. 5. put battery back in C4.
it's not the remote that is failing. if you try to control the shield with the c4 app or within composer (double clicking shield driver), there is no response. So the remote actually has nothing to do with this issue; it is a driver/connectivity/addressing issue.
I had similar issues, but I found (for my case) that I had to update some system apps in Google Playstore after the Android 11 / Shield 9 upgrade. I cant recall exactly which apps but it may have been the WebView app and also the NVIDIA Remote Service app, which is what I believe the c4 driver uses for commands, after applying those updates and any other available updates, I then hard rebooted it (pulling power out of the shield and wait 5-10 seconds and plug back in). C4 control was available upon it starting up.
