Hi Faldo users and Faldo developers,

All the reviewers of the FALDO paper do not like the “position” predicate being
so close to the “Position” class. I suggest we obsolete “position” and make a new
equivalent predicate “hasPosition”

We can easily change this in the ontology
but it would have an effect for our users and tools.

https://github.com/JervenBolleman/FALDO/pull/23

For OWL enabled tools it would not make a difference but for normal SPARQL endpoints
and data converters it would.

On the UniProt SPARQL endpoint we can rewrite/fix queries using position but most other endpoints
do not allow for this kind of manipulations.

Could everyone add a +1 or -1 as a comment to the pull request to indicate if they think it should be merged
and implemented? If you have a tool or dataset that uses FALDO I would also like it if you could indicate if and when
you could implement this change.

Regards,
Jerven

Hi!

I am fine with marking “position” as obsolete and introducing an equivalent “hasPosition” property. I can account for that change in the older BioInterchange version as well as the new upcoming release.

I would advise against removing “position” completely though. It would render the RDF Turtle examples in “GFVO: the Genomic Feature and Variation Ontology” (https://peerj.com/articles/933/) invalid.

Best wishes,

Kim
