Can someone recommend a propeller overhaul shop? My Hartzell BA is past recommended overhaul date and spitting a little grease. I’m looking to get some quotes.
I already am aware of South Coast Propeller in AL. I talked to them a couple weeks ago. They seemed to know what they were doing and have a truck that will pick up the prop from FFC.
I’m getting quotes in $5500 range which seems crazy to me since the prop only cost $7500 new in 2008, but maybe I just need to recalibrate my expectations based on the current market. I figure I will check a few different options just to cover my bases.
Thanks,
Greg Vouga

Thanks everyone for the quick responses!
In case any of you were wondering…
I called South Coast, Air Prop, and Sensenich. All seemed knowledgeable and helpful. I got an overhaul price range of $4000-$5050. All had a lead time of about 5-6wks. South Coast and Air Prop will pick up from FFC. I’m leaning towards Air Prop Specialists at this point.

I’m talking with Air Prop Specialists currently. They have a truck that will swing by to pick up props 1-2 times per week free of charge. I’m 99% sure I’m going with them, just waiting for a confirmation that they can reproduce the paint on my prop.

Thanks for the heads up on NYCO Grease. I didn’t know there was a new grease.
Here’s another question… Is it necessary to overhaul the prop governor at the same time as the propeller? I have a MT governor, bought new in 2008, never overhauled, ~1550hrs tach time. It’s currently working good, no issues.
Greg
Thanks, I suspected this might be the case…
