Hello fellow RV8ER's,

I just got a call from a buddy of mine at Mallard's who informed me that a pair of FRVS birds recently arrived using left traffic for Rwy 25. It's important to remember that the patterns are always to the north at Mallard's, i.e., Rwy 25 is RIGHT traffic. The lucky folks who live in this awesome community fly not only airplanes but helos, ultralights, paragliders, etc., which makes adherence to the proper pattern very important. Pattern orientation is shown on the sectional chart as well as the airport notes, which has other details and is attached for your reference.

Many thanks,

Thanks Trapper.

While I didn’t call, the gliders use the south traffic pattern. All powered aircraft should be north on downwind.  If you happen to see yellow flags flying at the two mid field winds socks, this indicates that gliders are airborne and could return ay any time via a south downwind.  Please use 123.70 for traffic announcements only. We share this with Macon approach and don’t want to use it away from the traffic pattern. We do not wish to end up in the 122.80 cesspool.

Fraternally,

Dave Hamilton

So, this is a prime example of why you should go to work for the FAA after one of your retirements versus being on the HOA of an airpark. In fact, one should never be on the HOA of an airpark…
I absolutely love that he assumes said RV’s were from Falcon. In actuality, only one was;)…
Cheers - AJ

AJ,

No reason to be on the HOA of any sort unless you enjoy people criticizing you for trying to help their community without any reimbursement.

As for “assuming” the airplanes were FRVS birds, I’m not certain anyone ever claimed they were. If he was just trying to get the word out to the most number of people to increase the safety of the community, there is no better method than putting it on our mailing list.

Blue skies and fly safe.

We get a lot of pilots coming here that use the standard left hand traffic. We try to remind everyone. Don’t take it personal. As all of us know our flying communities/airports are under constant assault/complaints from outside idiots.

Very salient points from Sparky and Vic!  I'd say that most of us consider it a privilege that we're welcomed at Mallard's for seasonal Fly-In's and other events/business. The least we can do is take time to know and follow the rules, lest we run over a helo because we're in the wrong pattern. Safety first, gents.
