Hi all,
We are just a few days away from our October 10th cookout. The plan would be to watch the airshow practice, then have a beer tasting before firing up the grill. Let me expand on that a bit.
The airshow waiver is from 12:00 to 4:30 pm. The potentially bad news is that with the government shutdown, the military participation, including the T-Bird, is in jeopardy. And Lilly Productions is way heavy into the military. The good news is that we are on rain or shine. Since the weather will be perfect, the news is that we don’t need no stinking military airshow. We are having a Oktoberfestish cookout. Come when you want. Bring family and friends.
It has been a while since we have had a cookout at D-28 and we have quite a few new members so here are a few “rules” that everyone needs to abide by.
1. It’s a group effort. We need help cleaning up, setting up and most importantly, picking up. The party doesn’t end until everyone has removed whatever they brought in (leftovers, coolers, pots etc) and the planes are put back in the hangar.
2. The parking area on the concrete in front of D-28 belongs to the occupants. There is lots of grass to park in.
3. We have plenty of tables. We normally see 50-70 people at our functions. We run out of chairs. So you might want to bring a folding chair or two.
4. It’s BYOS (stuff). Bring things to share. I have one grill. We could use another. I am assuming brauts, burgers and chicken for the most part.
5. We provide paper plates and plastic utensils etc. We will provide the obvious condiments. We do not provide beverages outside of beer.
This will be an Oktoberfest themed event. My lederhosen has long since shrunk but I do have my tyrollean hat. I am thinking brauts and beer. For the beer tasting, I purchased a case of German craft beer with our party funds.. There are 24 16.9 oz cans to share. I bet you have never heard of any of them and I don’t think there any IPA’s. They are all from small German breweries. It should be fun. Other keg beer is free but don’t forget the landing fee.
For the cookout I am bringing hot dogs/brauts and buns, again from our party funds. Burgers, ribs, chicken? Knock yourself out.
We will need to do some cleanup and set up in D-28. I think we can probably set up tables outside. Volunteers appreciated starting around noon.
Set up at noon. Beer tasting at 4:30pm. Cookout starting around 5:30 pm. All times subject to change.
