Just downloaded this app, thought it was more of a system where based
on the clubs and maybe some swing style parameters, it would recommend
a club for the shot.

Is this all manual? It seems to be unless I am missing something. Is
there any sort of database for various clubs?

It is currently all manual based on your known swing/club distances.
Because there are a lot of characteristics of golfers that would
change the distance they hit a club (height, weight, swing style,
strength, etc) it isn't really feasible to auto calculate this
information. I find it best to enter your base data into the
application and then as you play make notes that your 3/4 swing is 130
instead of 150 for a 7 iron. You slowly build your database at the
range and on the course while at the same time taking notes on what
works and what doesn't. You can then look back and see the gaps in
your swing distances and locations. I am working on some auto analysis
of this as well for future releases to help you identify these
potential gaps.

There isn't currently a database in the application for clubs but I do
have that as something I want to add in the future. With all of the
various brands, models, and years of clubs it could be quite large and
there isn't currently a central source for this information I could
use. I will definitely move this up in the list though since it's
causing issues with the ease of use.

Thanks for the feedback ... it definitely will help me evolve the
application to better serve its users.

One thing I am having an issue with is I have used the sample db as a
starting point. Twice I have edited all the clubs to my own. But when
I go back in some if not all of the clubs have reverted to the sample.
Might be 3 or 4 of my clubs are there but most are the mizunos. One
thing I have noticed is that it sometimes seems to crash as I finish
entering my clubs.

I have fixed a low memory crashing problem and will be submitting it
to apple today with a few other small bugs fixed as well. I also
changed it to save more often. I wasn't saving after every add before
due to performance issues but I will be saving more often now so you
shouldn't see the data loss issue.

I forgot to mention that you shouldn't edit the existing sample clubs,
I hadn't thought of this. if you click the button to Remove Samples
all your changes and data will be lost. I will have to fix this asap
in case others are doing it as well. I think I will ask the user the
first time they edit them if they would like to mark it as not a
sample so it won't get deleted.

On another note... I think if you sync your device to iTunes it can/
will send me the crash reports when the app crashed. It can help with
diagnosing problems.

Thanks again for helping find this issue.

The best way would be to allow us to submit our clubs to some website,
so users could just pick their clubs. I'm sure there are lots of
golfers putting in their data right now. Why not leverage that
information (except for notes and swings, I guess).

OTOH, it might be interesting to see how your swings compare to other
users' swings. I'd like to know if someone's getting 20 more yards out
of a particular iron than I am.

I am working on a backup for your data to push the data to a
WideAsleep server. I will likely add an option to share your data (if
you want) with others. From there I could build out a club catalog and
do exactly what your suggesting. I think I would want to scrub the
data before making it available though as I would worry about exposing
a unmoderated set of information as I'd be worried about malicious and
incorrect data.

The feedback is appreciated ... it's ideas like this that get me
really excited about this application and it's potential. If there is
anything else you'd like to see please send it to this forum or to my
address. All feedback is welcome.

Thanks,
