 Camp Details:

This camp is for players who will be in 8th grade or above this fall and have played at least one season of 90' ball.  The purpose of this camp is to prepare baseball players to play at the Varsity or JV level, no matter which high school they attend.  All coaches on staff have coached at the varsity level and will hold players to those expectations throughout the entire week.

The High School Baseball Prep Camp is designed to provide players position specific instruction, hitting, and overall team play.  Camp sessions are designed to mimic the speed and rigor experienced during a high school baseball practice.

The High School Baseball Prep Camp is committed to a hands-on approach to instruction with high participation for the camper.  In order to accommodate a hands on, energetic atmosphere our camper/staff ratio will not exceed 10-1.

Along with having the chance to work on basic fundamentals during the week, players will also be drilled on many of the more intricate aspects of the game offensively and defensively.  Examples range from effective communication to base running.  Our goal is to have the players develop a higher level of thinking when on the field.  Baseball is an extremely difficult game that involves 100% focus and concentration.  It is the camp’s intention to enhance a player’s awareness through drills and repetition.

We have assembled a veteran group of baseball coaches experienced in camp instruction and dedicated to helping each and every camper become a better player. The camp staff combines years of baseball experience and knowledge with the enthusiasm and desire to personally work with the camper.

What You Can Expect:

At the 2011 High School Baseball Prep Camp, we will have a set structure planned for each day so that practice is efficient and organized.  We will move very quickly from drill to drill, but will take the time necessary during the drills to make sure we’re maintaining quality in our work.   As coaches, we love to be asked questions, so please encourage your players to speak up if something seems confusing along the way. We will run many of the drills we run during a varsity practice, including but not limited to the following:

Cut –Off Double Plays – warm-up drill involving the entire defense.  Outfielders and infielders must work together in all facets for this drill to work, causing the players to warm up both their bodies and their minds.

Double Cuts – Balls are hit to the gaps in the outfield and the players are taught how to properly perform a double-cut off situation.

Diamond Run Downs – Players will be taught how to properly run a defensive “pickle” situation around the base paths.  This drill requires skill and precision, as players must trust each other to perform their personal duties in order to catch the base runner.

PFP’s – Short for “Pitchers’ Fielding Practice” – These drills all revolve around the pitcher, focusing on each defensive strategy when the ball is hit back to them, depending on where the base runners are at the time.

1stand 3rdOffense/Defense– Players will go through the exact same 1stand 3rddrills held in a varsity level practice, where a catcher will relay a certain defensive play through a set of physical signs, and base runners will receive signs from the 3rdbase coach.  Both offense and defense are run at the same time to promote a competitive level of focus in order to execute to perfection in these pressure-packed situations.

4 Station Base running – base running drills will be held every day, as they are a KEY part of the game at the varsity level.  Players will learn how to take proper leads from each base, as well as how to steal, round the base aggressively, and how to read and anticipate moving up on balls in the dirt to the catcher.
