Hi everybody,
One of my three year old hens died in my hands today. She had stopped
laying a few weeks ago and we kept checking her out and not noticing
anything out of the ordinary-mostly checking for bound eggs. Yesterday
she was drooping and we checked again and she had a big bulgy crop and
we could feel pockets of undigested food in her belly. She died this
morning. We had stopped putting out grit in the middle of winter
because the rain just kept making a mess of it. Just a sad reminder
that our birds really do need grit. Hope it wasn't anything worse.
Pam
