SMTF Meeting recap

For those of you that missed the meeting on Tuesday, here are the
items that were discussed. If you have any questions or would
like to be more involved in any of the following, please contact

-An overview of Fair Trade
-Introduction of SMTF officers
-WRC/USAS/CSP campaign:

-Coffee
Starbucks shops are supposed to have Cafe Esteema (Their Fair
Trade coffee) brewed, or brew it when requested, so make sure you
ask for it if you purchase coffee from Starbucks.
Additionally, Sweetwater's organic and FT coffee, which is
roasted locally, is available at the dining services on campus.
It's also available at many stores around Gainesville.
SMTF is trying to get FT coffee more readily available to
students.
-Students for a Democratic Society letter to appeal to UF
administration for more transparency. SMTF endorsed the letter.
On October 5th or 11th there will be a meeting with President
Machen to discuss this issue.
-This Wednesday, October 3rd, SMTF will have a sweat-line in Plaza
of the Americas to bring attention to sweatshops and the
WRC/USAS/DSP campaign.
-Progressive Caucus
-SMTF is now part of the progressive caucus, which aims to
connect the progressive student organizations on campus. There
are meetings once a month. If you are involved with another

-Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW)
-Visit the blogspot ( http://ufsweatshopfree.blogspot.com/
)to find out more about this issue. There will be a march on
Burger King with speakers and complaints to the manager at the
Burger Kings on campus on Wednesday, October 3, mid-day.
-On Tuesday, October 2nd, CIW representatvies will be
speaking at the Civic Media Center, where SMTF will hopefully
cater.
-We have an open position for Treasurer. So far we have one
person interested in the post. If anyone else is, please contact
us.
-The next general body meeting will be announced shortly.
