Operation of Fluid-O- Tech Pump

Can someone explain the operation of the Fluid-O-Tech pump to me. I have one in my C85/S with the Faema OPV valve installed. The brew head pressure changes without any reason I can understand. I can tell when it changes by the sound of the pump. I had the OPV adjusted to 9 bar. Now the measured pressure is is 13/14 bar. Adjusting the OPV has no effect. Fluid-O-Tech says the pump bypass valve is factory set at 10 bar. If that's so, why isn't water coming out of the the pump bypass.

My plan to convert this machine to a rotary pump is on hold. I have all the necessary parts. We are selling our house and getting ready to move so I am waiting.
