Brew head pressure adjustment and measurement

Hi all,

Been using a compact for a while but never too understand how to check and adjust the pressure. So is there a way to check the pressure? And if it is too low, is there somewhere I can adjust it?

Hi Ben,

There are a couple of different ways to check the pressure. You can use something like this (https://www.espressoparts.com/portafilter-pressure-gauge-kit) to measure the pressure at the portafilter. If you want something more permanent, you can also add a T after the pump and install a pressure gauge there. The way you adjust the pressure is to adjust the over pressure valve (OPV), which opens to release pressure. The OPVs looks a little different depending on when your machine was made, but it should be near the pump. Depending on which type your machine has, it might not be adjustable. That was the case with my machine, so I replaced the OPV with this one (https://www.espressoparts.com/1-4-expansion-valve), which is very easy to adjust by turning the screw on the end.
