Hi,

If anyone is interested in an excellent condition Faema Compact C84 please let me know. I am selling mine since I upgraded to a new machine. My Faema was purchased a little over a year ago from the owner who did a full frame off restoration of it. The frame was stripped, sandblasted and professionally powder coated, all components were descaled and gaskets replaced. Since I bought it I have installed some brand new solenoid valves, replaced the group gasket, screen, and also performed a full vibe-to-rotary conversion pump. In addition I installed a PID to monitor the group temp and also installed a time-delay solid state relay to adjust pre-infusion from 0-120 seconds. This machine truly is a beauty and is unique and in immaculate condition.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks
-Erik

Erik,

Can you tell me what model pump and motor you used. I have a C85 and
was wondering what might be a replacement. Since you say internal, I am
assuming pump and motor are inside the case.

Regards,
David

Yes, I was able to Retro fit a compact commercial rotary vane pump and drive motor where the original ulka vibe pump was located internally. You would have to remove the water softener tower, and custom fit the vane motor/pump as well as install a relay. The pump and motor is the same one used on the Vivaldi II and the Izzo II that Chris Coffee Service sells. The rotary pump conversion I did is not a one-for-one direct replacement for the vibe pump you have in your machine right now with doing some mods.

Erik and Sam,

That was a bit of craftsmanship on the modifications of the C84, but I too will keep my C85 as is.  I bought it at a used restaurant equipment auction several years ago.  Also, I am the only one who uses it.  Neither my wife nor any of my friends, even the Italian ones, drinks espresso.  I need the softener column as I live on the Gulf coast in FL and our water comes out of the faucet almost in chunks.  I change the resin column frequently.

If my pump should fail, I probably would go back the the auction and buy another machine of some type.  The auction is held once a month and they usually have a machine for sale.

David;
Wow, you would buy a whole machine for just the pump!

i'll take your old one if you are throwing it out :)

Erik, i have machine envy!  Cimbali M32 is an awesome machine, my current budjet does not support that kind of $$

I hope you sell your C84 auto soon, these are nice machines, i often see them on ebay UK.
best

Sam,

At this auction, used espresso machines sell for a small fraction of their new price.  I have seen 3 group commercial machines sell for less than $2K.  I bought this one for under $100.  I had to buy a portafilter for it.

However, since I am do not have any 220V circuits in my house, I am some what limited in my choice of machines.  The builder didn't see fit to put in any in the whole house or garage.  I probably would replace a bad pump if it came down to that.

David;

I purchased mine for $200 from a restaurant and also had to buy a portafilter separately.   After about 2 years?  I have an additional $250 (pump, solenoid, element, site glass, misc gaskets and citrix acid).

220V circuit is not bad to install, what part of the world are you from?

Sam,

I have had mine for about 8 years and really haven't spent any money on it other than a couple of new gaskets, a change in portafilter baskets, salt for deionizer, and cleaner for the head.  About a year ago I had to to disassemble and clean the pump bypass valve because it was not working.  The water level gauge was all crudded up and I had to clean it before it would work properly.

One minor problem I have with it is the breakage of the water value knob.  For some reason one lasts only about a year before it breaks.  I have not found a supplier who has the correct replacement.  They always send the one for the electrical switch.  I have even sent photos of what I need to no avail.   I have a friend who lives near Milan go the the factory and get a couple for me but they have both since broken.  I hate to ask him to do it again.

I live in Clearwater, FL.

Installation of 220V circuits is not in my budget right now.  Where the breaker box is mounted it would make necessary to break into at least one wall.  Then working in the attic to string wire is difficult in due to the low pitch of my roof, no snow load here, and no solid floor.  It's either that or run EMT around the outside of the house.  I really would like to have some 220V circuits because I am an amateur radio operator and can't use my amplifiers on 120V.  I have installed 220V circuits in other of my houses before, but with the location of the breaker box and my arthritis I just can't do that sort of thing any more.
