When you are creating the contact, since you have On the iPhone and the Google contacts, you need to make sure what group you are adding the contact to. If you are adding it to the phone group, it doesn't sync to Google. That also explains why when you remove the Gmail account, all of the Google contacts delete from the phone, but you still have contacts created on the phone.

I'm not sure, but you can look as you create the contact to make sure it is going where you want it. I do not use Google or sync to more than one place, so mine are all on my device. I sync to my Outlook on the computer, but there is still only one group of contacts. Check in the Settings area for contacts. Since you have more than one group, a default setting may be available. I do not see one on my phone.

yes you can change the default contact account to gmail. which is a wise thing to do becuase by using gmail as the central repository of all your contacts you can access those contacts using any of your devices and email clients. on your iphone choose settings>mail.contacts, calendars>scroll way down to Contacts (it's on a gray background) and below that select >Default Account>you will see On my iphone And the name of your gmail account>select your gmail account. a tick mark appears. Now everytime you create a contact on your iphone it will automatically sync to your gmail account. and visa versa. And the same goes for deleting a contact.

A few hundred contacts disappeared off my iPhone yesterday. I looked at a few threads in this forum and tried to restore an archive of my contacts from iCloud. All I see is "No archives available". iCloud Contact sync worked great until June 26, 2018. Any ideas?

I wish to export all my iphone contact data to a single excel worksheet. Is there a way to export the data to an xls or a csv format (not separate csv files for each contact). I have the contacts in both my iPhone and the iCloud, but iCloud allows export as a vCard only.

Not possible from within the icloud. If you are on a Mac, have your contacts appear in the Address Book. Next, select all of your contacts and drag/drop them into iWorks Numbers instead. It would work as excel sheet in that your contacts and contact data is displayed in a list which you can then print.

What process would I use to export contacts from someone's old iPhone 4 to 4s (personal to business phone). Need to export her contacts off the old phone and onto the new, but she doesn't have Outlook or anything on her PC that I am aware of. She has iCloud setup, but I am not seeing a way to export from that (unless I'm missing it). She does have gmail, wondering if anything could I sync to her gmail account somehow then export from there? Bottom line need to get it into her company Outlook so it can sync through Exchange.

If she uses a computer to log into her iCloud account, she can export her contacts as a vCard file, which can then be imported into your iCloud account (when logged into iCloud via a computer, click on Contacts then look for the "gear" at the lower-left corner). She can also do a similar thing from her GMail account, but if you want to import to your iCloud make sure she exports as vCard since that's all iCloud can read.

There are also apps that export your contacts in a variety of formats and I think it then sends the exported file as an e-mail attachment. That might be the easiest process, assuming that you both have the same app or at least compatible apps that can export/import the same file type.

Thanks! She does have iCloud already enabled on the old phone and I see the control panel for iCloud on her computer. I'll look to see if I can find some more instructions on exporting while logged into iCloud. I didn't see much, and there was a screen we couldn't seem to get past. On gmail, She doesn't seem to think the contacts are in gmail, but only on her phone itself, but I'll have her open that up and check. That I definitely know how to export.

Method 1: Sync your contacts with iCloud or with an address book app on your computer via a USB connection or with gmail contacts or Yahoo contacts. Or just back up your phone to iTunes or iCloud, then restore the backup after you restore the phone. It's an automatic part of the Restore process.

thats the problem i cant sync anything to icloud, because there's an error... it say something about itunes can't copy iphone because there's an error, thats it, nothing else... so i cant have a safety copy in icloud or my computer...

My iphone uses Exchange because I keep my contacts are google based and my e-mail is gmail. So if I sync my phone to my computer via itunes, I am afraid I will just duplicate things and contacts will be all over the place. (I've noticed that some of my contact info on my iphone do not even appear in my gmail contacts ---- but I think that may be for another day(!)). I'd like to export my iphone contacts to excel (or wherever) (and I will also will want to export my gmail contacts to excel (which I will do another time)) for the purposes of seeing what gmail I am missing (which appear on my iphone).

Exchange shouldn't have anything to do with it, and syncing your iPhone to your computer would not cause duplication. But maybe clarify your set-up ... are all your contacts in Google, or do you have Google contacts as well as some other source? (e.g. Yahoo, iCloud, etc.)

It sounds like you've set up your Gmail account as Exchange (good, but see warning below) so if all your contacts are in Google, you can export them as a .csv file from your computer, then import that into Excel (or whatever). You can also export them as vcard to be imported into iCloud, if you wanted to leave Google.

Google pulled the plug on Active Sync early 2012, but you can continue to use it if you had it set up prior to that date. Once you activate a new device you won't be able to use Exchange for Gmail, unless you have a special Gmail account (i.e. business or education). The good news is that as of iOS 7 a standard Gmail account set up in iOS includes syncing contacts to Google, just like you have it now as Exchange. The bad news is that Gmail on iOS is still Fetch-based, not Push like with Exchange.

I've followed the instructions given to set up a webdav account on the iphone, ie Settings>Mail, Contacts, calendars>add account and so on. Yet the contacts are not syncing. As a test, I created a new Gmail account, added this to the iphone and opened Contacts on the iphone, which is supposed to start the sync process. Nothing - no iphone contacts appear at all, either in my original Google account or the new test one.

The only contacts I'm getting in my gmail account are the addresses culled by Gmail from my emails, and contain only names and email adresses. That is, I'm not getting any of the 'full' contact info that's in my iphone contacts app, which include snail mail addresses, phone numbers etc.

I've BEEN doing this. My problem is that whenever I sign into the gmail/google account to add it to my list of accounts I want to sync my contacts with, it goes through the process of "adding" the account, only to flash to the "page" for literally maybe 2 seconds where all of the options are turned on, or "green" per say, and then it automatically goes back to the first "page" where it shows me the list of accounts and Gmail/google is not there. So I try the process again, same ****.

Does this work if you have multiple Google Accounts hooked up to your phone? I tried your steps and imported SIM contacts from each account but there was no update on the Google side. How do I get all my contacts on Google?

Existing contacts should be imported into Google contacts. If your contacts are stored on an Apple device, you can transfer your contacts using vCard files. If your contacts are stored with another provider, first export your contacts and then import your contacts into Gmail.

What I meant was setting up your Google account, you did that CORRECTLY however, in Contacts app on your iPhone, your Google account creates it's own group which will only show your contacts in your Google account (www.google.com). As per my first reply, that's what you should do next.

1. as a test, I added a dummy contact on the iphone. As I understand it, this should sync with my Google contacts. it didn't. Whart's more, the contacts listed in Goolge are only those that Google has culled from email trafffic. But I want to sync all my contact information, including snail mail addresses, phone numbers etc. That's not happening.

2. As a further test, I set up a new Google ID, added it to the iPhone 'mail, contacts, calendar' settings, and opened Contacts. Again, according to Google, this should start sysncing ttmy existing contacts on the iphone into the new (empty) Google account, no? Nothing's happening.

Suffice it to say, it does not work the way you think it does. If you want your existing contacts to sync between Google and the phone, you must first populate the Google contacts. Just because you don't like the instructions Google provided is no reason not to follow them.

What I want to put into it is the contact data aleady on my phone (and in icloud). Google's instruction seems to say that to put something in the conduit, I just have to open Contacts on the iphone. Clearly that's not correct. So what do I do?

What contact information do you have in your Gmail account now? When you add a Gmail account to CardDAV, it syncs the contacts you have in your Gmail account to your phone. It does not take the contacts you have in your phone and sync them back to your Gmail account as I understand it. If you change the default contacts account on your phone to Gmail account, any contacts you add to the phone in the future will be added to the Gmail account.
