Hi Kristen and all, this is Hershey Wier. Krsiten thanks for starting
the forum.
Am chiming in with my intro.

I'm from Minneapolis; Wisconsin (small town) and now Phoenix, but am
actually teaching abroad in Japan. I'm interested in online teaching
because the market here is dwindling and I will need to find another
means of support in the near future. However, I don't feel I would
make 100% of my living from online teaching. It would be one stream of
income.

I have an MBA, and the course I'd like to teach most is International
Business Communication, particularly utilizing Hofstede's Cultural
Dimensions to compare / contrast how societies behave and how business
is done in those societies. I've taught other "soft" courses like
management and marketing, but my strength is in Intercultural /
International Communications because I have many years experience
abroad and am bicultural, bilingual myself.

I am s*l*o*w*l*y working on an online PhD in Educational Technology
Management with an emphasis in MultiCultural Education. I have debated
whether I should go with a PhD in Business in Intercultural Studies,
but I feel most of my experience is in education, not business. I
actually don't know how far I will get with the PhD. I'm already in my
late-ish 40s and my degree will be from an online-no-name school.
Affordability and time are issues, as well. My MBA is from an no-name
brick and mortar school, and I have seen the huge difference in
marketability here in Japan. Not sure if it's the same in the US.

I'm just getting starting researching online. Have made a few apps
with no success. So, sort of lurking to see what info is out there
thay may help.

Let me know if I can help out in any way.

Technical Question about Google Groups
I have a question. I would prefer that my messages be visible to only
this group. I see that when I click on the profile of some members
here, all messages that they have written on *any* Google Groups list
are visible. If there is a setting that can prevent that, I'd
appreciate knowing. I clicked around but did not find any.

With warm regards,
Hershey

Hi Hershey,
Thanks for the post. I'm not certain if there is a way to switch off
the other posts to only show this group, but I will dig around myself
to see if that is possible. What town in Wisconsin did you live in?
I lived in Big Bend (just south of Waukesha) from ages 4-9. How is
living in Japan? I'm thinking your experience while being bicultural
and bilingual would be a huge plus for you. I plan on online teaching
becoming our only source of income. Currently I teach for U of P. My
husband just started there and also teachers for Kaplan with a new
program in the Health and Wellness department. They might promote him
to lead instructor next year which would mean a full time position
from home. U of P doesn't seem to offer these types of positions,
however I think I might suggest this in the future. It would be nice
to receive some benefits along with the pay. Let me know if you have
any questions. Hopefully I will be able to help you further.
Thanks!
