The former Tennessee Meiji Gakuin Japanese High School in Sweetwater, TN has been sitting empty for several years. It sits on 144 acres of beautiful land with forest, meadows and many buildings including dormitories, an indoor pool and many other amenities. The vision was to co-create an Omega Institute like place in the Southeast but with the added vision of renewable energy sources like solar/wind/water/human power and sustainable living practices/education ( i.e. an organic farm, cottage industries, etc.) So it would encompass all aspects of the human experience...mind, body, spirit, earth, community. There would be a small community of staff that would live on the land to maintain and nuture all that that entails. The vision also includes all type of art from music & dance & performing art as expressions of our true selves to painting, writing workshops. We also see many modalities of healing from body work...physical therapies with water, massage, physical fitness to reiki, yoga, qi gong, tai chi. Food would play an important part of the vision as well as herbal gardens and healing work done with plants and food...from the raw food movement to milling wheat and baking bread.
We also see a small spa/salon for guest who want to pamper themselves using all natural/organic products and methods. The science lab on the property lends itself to workshops and classes for all types from making herbal tinctures, essential oils to cooking instruction and fermentation workshops. There is a stable on the property and plenty of forest we can see an area for camping so that all socio-economic groups can experience the peace, love, light and learning that will be offered there. Although I am older than your NextGEN folks...if the Japanese are willing to gift this property...as they seem to be (see below) we need visionaries who are wanting and willing to show leadership on this project. Good day Sir. My name is Tricia Baehr, and I am writing on behalf of a group of my colleagues in the emerging field of Wellness. We are interested in the buildings and property of the former Tennessee Meiji Gakuin High School in Sweetwater, TN. We believe that the buildings and land could be utilized tremendously in our endeavor to create a multifunctional sustainable Wellness Retreat. Our plan includes a School, Hotel, Youth Hostel, Campground, and working Farm, as well as a farm to table restaurant. We imagine the excellent location of the historical campus will be the perfect place to build a Spiritual culture, working toward a sustainable future, to serve the highest good for the individual, and the community.

While enthusiastically conceiving the many uses of this historic property, my colleagues and myself now feel the best next-step would be to tour the property. We would also be honored to have the opportunity to meet with you, or your representatives personally to discuss our vision. The principle of “Do for Others.” from Matthew 7:12, inspired us to pursue the possibility of locating this projects on the Meiji Gakuin High School campus. It would be a great tribute to all people who have benefited from time spent on this campus, to continue the philosophy of learning into the 21st century with sustainable practices, and respect for the past as we move intrepidly toward the future.

Meiji Gakuin University. I am the Chancellor of Meiji Gakuin, responsible for
all of the schools established by Meiji Gakuin, including Tennessee Meiji
Gakuin, and Mr.Onishi asked me to respond to you.
I am thankful for your interest in TMG property. I would like to know what kind
of persons you and your colleagues are. You know Helen Hagood but I have never
heard of you from her. We at Meiji Gakuin are longing to find a good user of TMG
property and buildings. As you know, Meiji Gakuin was originally established by
an American Missionary sent to Japan by PCUSA. If the property and buildings of
TMG will be utilized for the welfare of American preople, we are willing to
provide them to the project. Please let me know your detailed plan as soon as
possible.
If necessary, I will visit Tennessee to see you and your colleagues.
