Hi Oppression Thespians;

James and I have hashed out the readings for our theory discussion next
week, and I'm finally ready to email you all about them. None too soon,
because I'm ready to zombify from fatigue and techno-frustration. Our
emphatically not-evil overlords at Google have made it a fecking chore
to share files through groups. Some emails about added files went out,
this email will explain what is what. If you agree with me that having
to read these things online is bullshit, email me directly and I'll send
you the .pdfs, I just can't do that through Google groups.

Now to the reading itself. Most people probably won't get to
everything, some have probably read some of this before, that's no
problem. Read as much as you have time for, and feel free to skip stuff
you already know.

The file called Pitcher_Marie-Claire.pdf is a short explanation of
Theatre of the Oppressed. If you have time for nothing else, read this.

If you have some energy after that, take a look at some pieces of the
book called Theatre of the Oppressed. The first chapter is on Google
Books:

http://books.google.com/books?id=lHe2L0kuHR0C&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false

... and the last thirty pages or so are available from an email that
went out a moment ago, telling you about a file called TO.pdf .

If you get through that or you've read it before, take a look at the
first chapter of Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

http://books.google.com/books?id=xfFXFD414ioC&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false

If you're still hungry for more, there's a remaining file I put on
google docs, which should correspond to the third email that went out
about a file shared with this group. The file is called
TowardPsychologiesOfLiberationChap12.pdf , and it's a quick discussion
of the psychology of liberation arts, a list of liberation art methods
(including TO,) and then a list of general principles that liberation
arts tend to have.

There should be something for everyone here, whether you've done lots of
reading on this, or it's all kind of new. Go as deep as circumstances
allow for and we'll tailor the discussion based on where people are.
See you all soo ... rrghgghgrghhh

braaaaaaiiiinnnnsss ...

Although there was some voyeuristic thrill attached to reading this post, I request to be removed from the recipient list for local (WA) activities.  Highly unlikely I'll attend anything.  Would it complicate y'all's lives terribly to keep me in the loop for general TO type notifications only?

Miss Alex

P.S.  Just got asked this week to "do some TO" with a small group that includes police and youth activists.  Time allotted?  90 min.

ALEX! i love that i can hear your profoundly pleasant, patient voice come thru in your writing. miss you much miss alex :)
not sure how to remove you from/ separate out this mailing list, anyone have an idea?

LOL @ time allotted... and "do some TO"... sounds like you're being asked to just bust a magic trick or two; which i guess is about accurate. let us know if/ how that goes!

Keep in touch, love
James

Hey All,

Just letting you know I won't be able to make it to tonight's gathering. Have a great session, though!
