Hello,

I'm trying out the FaceGen Artist 1.6 demo, and I've noticed that the demo face does not match the face in Daz Studio 4.9 when morphed.  The facegen morph dial is set all the way to 1.0.

The two faces do have similar features, but there is enough difference to notice something is wrong. I have tried a couple different faces, and they all have the same problem.  There is a noticeable mismatch in geometry.  The texture is ok.

Who is at fault?  Daz Studio or Facegen?  When Facegen creates the .dsf file, does it output raw delta values, or does it perform an extra step of age correction?

Because the base Genesis character is at a certain age, perhaps around 25.  If we create a face for someone who is not exactly 25, will that cause morphing problems (e.g. putting the face of a 60 year old on a 25 year old body) ?

Thanks

Hello Judy,

The Daz meshes have a certain look that they retain, due to the mesh layout and small-scale shape details which are not affected by FaceGen.

Apart from that, no adjustment is made; the medium and large scale shape should be close to identical to the shape of the face cutout you see in FaceGen Artist.

Best wishes,

So, if you outputted a morph with delta values that created a completely flat face with zero details (just as a test to see what happens),
Daz Studio would still retain its own features?

I just have one other suggestion.  FaceGen Artist has an option called "Use detail from profile photo(s)".
I'm assuming this extracts texture pixels from the left/right photos, if this option is checked.

However, that doesn't seem to be the case.  It's seems texture pixels are being used even when this
option is unchecked.  I tested this by using a completely green picture as a profile photo.  Green pixels
still got copied over even when this option was left unchecked.

I would like to use the inputted data points from the left/right photos for shaping only.
Thanks.

I forgot to ask, is there a Undo hotkey for the sliders?
I tried Ctl-Z, but nothing happens.

The UI doesn't seem to have a standard file menu layout for those type of commands.

In the next version there will be 'Undo' and 'Redo' buttons in an 'Edit' tab.

We'll add keyboard shortcuts in a later version.

We chose a non-standard layout of using only tabs since we felt that tabs are much more self-explanatory than menus, and there is no need for both.

FaceGen works by warping shapes, not creating them from scratch.

The warps that FaceGen uses have a minimum size, so things like creases and small shape features will not be changed, even as overall shape of the face can be completely changed.

The option to not use detail texture from profile photos only affects small-scale details such as wrinkles, pores, etc. FaceGen still tries to match all selected photos. So if one of the photos is green, FaceGen will attempt to generate a green face to match it.

We will add a feature to use the points only in a future version, thanks for your feedback.

Best wishes,

Oh, I guess I misunderstood the purpose of the left/right photos.

These left/right photos are only used for extracting texture data?
They are not used for shaping the profile, such as the nose, mouth, chin, etc..?

The photos are used to match the face, which includes matching its color and its shape (including profile).

Best wishes,
