Hi,

New here and I have been using the 3d print demo version. Anyway, i want to use facegen for 3d portraits or selfies (face only) and print them on my sla/ fdm /sandstone printer. Which facegen would you guys suggest and which version is the best. Also when i export the face from facegen and open it inside the meshmixer, it doesnt look like the images. What sort of post processing should i do once i generate the face in facegen. Can you please demonstrate how to get all of this to work. I want to make something like in the picture i have attached.

Hi Darshan,

For color 3D printing you'll need FaceGen 3D Print Pro.

Feel free to download the free FaceGen 3D Print Demo and give it a shot. You'll get the same results except with a logo on the forehead, and fewer hairstyles and statues to choose from.

No post-processing should be required. MeshMixer by default uses only ambient light shading so that will look a bit different from in FaceGen, which uses a mix of diffuse and ambient.

Best wishes,

I have tried using the demo, I have attached the original picture (front, i used 3) , a pic on how it looks inside facegen and one inside the rhinoceros 3d software. As you can see its quite different. What am i doing wrong? Can you suggest me a method to get it working.

You need to import the color map file that was exported from the demo.

Most applications do this automatically but i guess Rhino does not.

I don't know how to use Rhino so cannot advise you on that.

How about if I use zbrush? Also the color map is not useful for me since I won't be printing it in color.
Do you have any reference video which you can share. I am ready to use the model inside zbrush and tweak.

After exporting, your FaceGen 3D Print workflow is done; proceed to your 3D printer software to print.

If you want to sculp details with zbrush, Pixologic offers lots of videos:
