to Smart Facebook Parents!
First of all, thank you for this group and thank you for publishing
your book--I just ordered a copy of Amazon and am looking forward to
receiving/reading it.

I would like your opinion of 12-year-olds on Facebook? My stepson's
mother allowed my 12-year-old step son to set up a profile. I was
very upset followed by alarm. I found in alarming how many of his
classmates (11/12 years old) have fb profiles. Equally concerning to
me is that there does not seem to be a lot out there addressing social
networking from a holistic perspective.

There is a decent amount that discusses cyber safety...addressing
predators, etc. There is also a decent amount addressing
cyberbullying and sexting But, I have found very little that
addresses that kids are beginning a digital trail and starting a
"digital personality" that needs to be managed and understood.

It is an enormous mistake (in my opinion) to throw kids into the
enormous and powerful pool of social networking with no guidance.

I have started a FB group--Raising Cyber Citizens. I am going to do
what I can to raise the awareness of your page and book and I would
love it if you see fit to share my page.

This is a huge issue and those of us who understand social networking,
I believe, need to guide kids and parents alike.

It used to "take a village" to raise a child. Today is takes a cyber
community of good, well-intentioned people.

Thanks again and I would love your feedback on the 12-year-old issue.
