Nissantoday announced the return of X-terra for 2021 model year, after half a dozen years, much to the excitement of off-road enthusiasts who have missed a five -seater mid-size SUV that looked and played the part of an adventurer in the Nissan Range. They even get two additional seats as a bonus.

The fascia is inspired by the Patrol (what else?). The new V-motion grille has a thick frame that is contrasting with the refined horizontal chrome bars within the frames. The C-shaped LED headlamps have been interpreted somewhat differently for the X-Terra and looks nice. The quad LED projector lamps resemble ice cubes that seems to be the in-thing with many brands these days. Each one is framed within its own bezel and sure has a high tech vibe! The bumper seems to have unique layers overlapping each other, scooped off with skid plates, adding to the protected feeling without compromising on the sophistication Nissan wants to convey in tandem with the grille and the LED lights.

Intelligent Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning (warns you of a vehicle in the side if you are poised for changing lanes, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (warns you if a vehicle in front is too close for comfort), Intelligent Driver Alertness (measures how alert your state of mind is from your attention to the road)

The new X-Terra will be driven by a 2.5L gasoline engine, good for 165 hp and 241 N-m torque, mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy is claimed to be 11.4 km per litre, not surprisingly a segment best! Nissan X-Terra 2021 allows the driver to switch between 4WD or 2WD with the twist of a dial. In tackling rock, mud or sand, drivers will benefit from 4-Low gear, differential lock, hill descent control and hill start assist.

So, what about the 4.0L engine that empowered the adventurers till 2015? The spokesperson at the global launch said, right now, another engine variant is not being offered but Nissan will closely monitor the needs of its customers.

Which of these SUV's have good value for money and reliable? Easy to maintain and durable? It's gonna be my first time buying a 2nd hand car and i have lots of doubts. I will be using it mainly as a family car and i will not do off-roading. Im looking for an SUV with good ride height and fairly spacious interior and if possible 7-seater vehicle. The Xterra seats 5 people but it feels big for its SUV class. Personally im into choosing Xterra as a 2nd hand vehicle and i've tested one myself and it feels good to drive and also 2nd hand xterra are not that expensive (plus also for Nissan's reliable aircondition.) I have't tried pajero or montero though but i've seen so much of these SUV on the road.

A lot of people say it's ok to buy a 2nd hand car in Qatar if i know how to check the vital or important things on it. Can you guys help me out? BTW, my budget is around 40k-50k 2nd hand car with LOW mileage... im not considering more than 60-70k mileage.

Since your research says that Xterre is a good one and you also have an inclination for this car, suggest you go for it. You can also go for a Toyota Prado if you can lay your hands on one and if it is a good condition. The kilometer readings may not be accurate though as some sellers tinker with it. You may check Qatar Living car section for sellers.

Regarding car mechanics, i know some friends who knows where to find the good ones. So i guess it won't be a problem for me. The only thing i want to know is which if these cars from my choices are reliable and has good performance. Based from my research it seems like Xterra has good reputation as 2nd hand vehicle and the engine performance is very good. Are there other SUVs that are good overall as 2nd hand car compared to my choices and same price bracket?

If you are going for a car in Qatar, Toyota stands out over all others. Toyota has the advantages that the spare parts are cheaper than other car brands, the cars have a resale value, and there are many parts where you can find non-original ones (locally known as "tejari"). Also, even original spares can be purchased from several outlets and not just from the agents.

Next in line is the Nissan. You can go for any of the models. It too has a market value but lower to that of Toyota. Try to avoid Mitsubishi as the spare parts are costly and most of them are available with just the agents. Mitsubishi does not have a good resale value.

If you know about cars or know of a good mechanic, you can go for a second-hand car. Keep in mind buying a second-hand car from unknown sources is always a blind-buy. People won't tell you of the problems of the car they are selling out. This is especially true with second-hand car dealers. It is advisable to buy one from someone who is leaving Qatar for good especially if he has been the first owner of the vehicle.

The Xterra is a no-nonsense, powerful SUV with a purpose-driven design. It lacks the usual trimmings of a sleek SUV, but it features a high stance and bulging fenders that add to the overall rugged look. Sporting a similar rugged appearance, the 2015 Nissan Xterra is an off-road adventurer and also looks the part.

The 4Runner uses a body-on-frame construction that translates into its drive quality. Unlike most modern SUVs with unibody construction, the 4Runner drives with truck-like gusto, so expect a rugged ride. The SR5 edition comes with tall tire sidewalls to soften ride quality. Towing capacity is rated at 4,700 lbs with standard trailer sway control.

The 4Runner is a five-seater standard, and only the SR5 and Limited trims can accommodate up to seven passengers. The SUV offers generous front legroom of 41.7 inches and a headroom of 38.6 inches. The seating situation in the rear is a bit cramped at 32.9 inches of legroom and 38.6 inches of headroom.

Unlike the 4Runner, the Xterra is strictly a five-seater SUV. The front seats have 42.4 inches of legroom and 39.9 inches of headroom. The rear seats are less spacious, with 34.4 and 39.3 inches of legroom and headroom.

The Xterra comes with a 5-inch infotainment display with NissanConnect smartphone app integration for in-car entertainment. Features include AM/FM, satellite radio, Bluetooth streaming, CD player, and AUX audio input. A fancier 9-speaker Rockford Fosgate audio system is exclusive to the PRO-4X model.

Or you might see elements in future production models - grilles, fender flares, seating arrangements, engines. Some concept cars never make it, making the North American International Auto Show in Detroit a filter against future Edsels.

CONCEPT CARS: Ford Thunderbird -A beautiful two-seater that hopes to transport the excitement of the original 1955 T-Bird onto the graying Ford brand. But buyers historically shun American two-seaters that emphasize luxury over performance. Grade: A-

Chrysler Citadel - A long, low sports wagon with four bucket seats, minivan sliding rear doors, and a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain. Graceful, elegant, and unusual, but perhaps too far ahead of its time. Grade: B

Dodge Power Wagon -A very large, old-fashioned-looking but luxurious pickup with a giant diesel engine to demonstrate futuristic clean-burning bio-diesel fuel, a refined natural-gas product. Grade: A+

Buick Cielo - Bulbous, four-door sedan with a retractable top, historic Buick grille, and high-tech, gaugeless interior (pods pop up to display instruments). The automotive equivalent of a gadget that collects dust in the cupboard. Grade: C-

(my) Mercury -Bulbous, futuristic mid-size minivan/wagon/SUV with an amber, glass-dome roof. Stylish with a blatant appeal to the "me" generation. It doesn't quite succeed at being all things to all people, but will probably draw younger buyers into Mercury showrooms. Grade: B

Cadillac Evoq -Fast, expensive, two-seater with a retractable hard top. 400 horsepower supercharged V-8 bolted to a Corvette chassis but to get its own in production. Not as fast, elegant, or posh as Mercedes's Vision SLR. Still not what Cadillac needs to revive. Grade: B-

Oldsmobile RECON -Ugly, futuristic, boxy, midsize hybrid SUV with computer and cell-phone docking ports, Internet connectivity, and mouse controls. An auto enthusiast's nightmare: It encourages the driver to do everything but drive. Grade: D

Mazda MPV -A sporty minivan aiming for the one empty niche in crossover vehicles. But lowered ride height, tacked-on wings and garish chrome fool no one. It will likely replace the current MPV. Grade: C+

Ford Focus - Tall subcompact sedan, wagon, and hatchback models to replace the Escort next fall. Six-foot-five passengers fit in back. The best of four models is the four-door hatchback that won't come to the US. Grade: A-

Chevrolet Impala -A full-size, front-wheel-drive, six-passenger sedan to replace the Lumina this year. It promises better handling and performance than the Lumina and its Ford Taurus competition. What took so long? Grade: B+

Toyota Tundra -New full-size pickup. Built in the US, it finally packs a V-8 engine. Looks good, but its Detroit competition has already jumped ahead with full-size back seats and real rear doors. Grade: B-

Honda VV -A two-seat, egg-shaped hybrid-electric commuter vehicle. It gets 70 miles per gallon. Slated for US sales this summer. But it never runs on electric power alone, so it's practically just a very efficient small gasoline car. Grade: B-

Lincoln Blackwood -A Navigator with a hard-cover pickup bed and wood trim. The show car's lowered stance looks more appealing than Navigator's. Likely a big seller, but really just a big sedan. Grade: A+
