Things are starting to get hectic again with real life, but there was still some time recently to work on the Amiga 2500. My objective was simple: get the machine back together into a working box again so it is no longer spread all over my workbench.

The 80s Quantums are sort of infamous these days for failing; I have heard a lot of reasons for this, ranging from rubber o-rings in the drive melting to the arm rusting into one position after years of disuse. I tried a half-height 40MB Quantum, the original drive from my 1992-era Mac LC, which also refused to spin up.

If I have to replace this drive in the future, I think I will use a long SCSI cable and a Molex connector from a PSU instead of mounting the drive to the machine itself. It will probably also help cooling to have the drive next to the power supply, which has the only fan in the Amiga, instead of in the cramped expansion-card section.

Next week, I plan to try and reinstall the flickerFixer, though the combination of parasite daughterboards will require me to practically disassemble the machine again in order to run its nest of ribbon cables.

While no structures have been damaged by the blaze to date, Madison County officials have issued a voluntary evacuation for residents north of Finks Hollow Lane, which lies near the border of Shenandoah National Park.

An initial 650-acre containment line was not completed before the fire advanced beyond its limits early last week. While firefighters went on to construct a larger 1,250-acre perimeter, the blaze broke through it Thursday and then on Saturday breached a 1,600-acre line.

This #inspirational #sunday will be a three-part series of thoughts and ideas from a book I have read over two dozen times it was written in 500 B.C. over 2,500 years ago, and still, its core strategies holds today.

For some of you, who don't know me. I was born in Havana, Cuba - but my heritage goes deeper than just the place I was born. Just a few generations back, my family came from Europe (mostly Spain), Africa, and Asia (mostly China). I'm married to an amazing woman from Thailand "A most go travel destination," and my two sons continue the #multicultural legacy. I spent over thirty years studying material arts from "Goju-ryu Karate, Muay Thai to Tai-Chi you can say my life is a bleed of West and East coming together!

My profession is always tasked to be creative, scientific, and draw on a strategy to get the results our clients want. I don't know about you, but at times this is a big ask. So where can we get that inspiration or even pull guidance from? How about that book I mentioned earlier? Eastern philosophy is hardly discussed in today's day's age of advancing technology you might also argue it's been pushed back or overlooked, but did you know every time you build a business strategy, design a campaign or even go into an aggressive war we all draw from some of the oldest principals in history.

In the next two posts, I will be highlighting were some of my business, personal, and I must admit "gaming strategy" I draw from. The book is called "The Art of War" The work, which is attributed to the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu ("Master Sun", also spelled Sunzi), is composed of 13 chapters and in the next posts and a little extra surprise after the Labor Holidays I will be breaking down how it's five constant factors relate to my industry (Marketing and Advertising) and others.

I made no real breakthroughs on my next attempt, a boattail body for one Amilcar and fenders for another. The aluminum body skin covered a wooden frame, which provided a ready-made buck. The shapes were much simpler than the Lotus nose. I made wood structures to form the aluminum fenders over, and while I could easily duplicate the lengthwise profiles for the two sides, the cross-section accuracy was hard to control. Screwing together pieces at different angles with wood blocks is clumsy and imprecise. My welds were still lumpy and messy.

When I started on the body for my Alfa 6C2500 roadster, then, I had done a long apprenticeship. A few more important discoveries awaited me, but I was getting close to having efficient fabrication methods that would give good results.

Nice story about great work. Somewhere between engineering, design and craft. Maybe even art! Clearly the Humanities (Paul being an ex-English prof) is good training for almost anything,..or everything!

Paul is skilled in two essential areas. He is a skilled metal man and he is also so skilled at English that he can communicate the complex art with us. Thanks Paul for these great stories illustrated with good photos.

I can relate to the buckets of Bondo after stripping a Maserati

3500 GT. It appeared that the body panel fabricator got the metal close and finished with body filler. I remember using at least 3 gallons of Aircraft paint stripper.

2500. (a) A public entity may use, enter into, or require contractors to enter into, a project labor agreement for a construction project only if the agreement includes all of the following taxpayer protection provisions:

(1) The agreement prohibits discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or membership in a labor organization in hiring and dispatching workers for the project.

(2) The agreement permits all qualified contractors and subcontractors to bid for and be awarded work on the project without regard to whether they are otherwise parties to collective bargaining agreements.
