Hi all,
Very nice work! Nice clear look.
Question: do any implementations of this
interact (live) with the underlying ILS for
things like placing holds on items?

We've got a php mysql catalog that we build
daily from our underlying ILS, and we can place
holds from it back to our ILS.

Your OPAC part is much nicer than ours, but we
don't want to lose the ability for patrons to
place holds...

Thanks for any pointers and answers.

BTW, great article on this project in _Computers
in libraries_ Oct 2007!

Cheers,
Kevin

I'm not as well versed in the catalog connection bits as others on
this list (hint, hint), but I don't believe it's been extended for any
POST operations at this point. I think http://library.paulsmiths.edu/catalog/
and some other implementations exchange data on page load with the
underlying ILS to determine availability status at the item level, but
I may be wrong on this.

I'm sure whichever method you use for your php catalog could be moved
over to F-B-O. Check out the item function in views.py and the way it
supplies variables for the item.html template.

Paulsmith's catalog does not interact live with the ILS. Like NCSU, we export and batch load our marc records nightly with holdings information data in our marc records...so holdings can be up to a day old.
