@ all
Fully agree. Beautiful, sorry, soundful movie! :)
There is also a beautiful article by ad man Santosh Desai titled 'bound by sound', in his book 'mother pious lady'. Worth read, too.
@ Tausif
Coincidentally I was humming Antaheen's title song (sung by Shreya Ghoshal) whole day today! And Prosenjeet! :)

The film had promise but I feel the script completely let it down. The dialogues were spoon feeding and unnatural. The characters half baked.

It had some nice moments and the sound design of course was amazing, and that's what saved the film.

I'm sure I'm one of the few who felt let down by the film, especially since I was really lookin forward to it.

Cheers!

The screenplay could have been better, but liked the fact that attempted 'erasure' of 'sounds' and its replacement with ' speech' in Tarak's world marks the allegorical domination of dialogue oriented films.

Yes, as a film it does not hold much promise, but found the attempt to tell the ' story of sound' in cinema an interesting 'project' for an Indian film to undertake
Very strong influence of television aesthetics, if anyone noticed.

It's really a beautiful film but seemed stretched at times. I'm not sure if that's the screenplay's fault that Tunali and Indranil sir pointing out. An excellent example to illustrate "Sound" as a character. The characters had layers that one could connect to. I guess this layering of characters or the depth was may be missing from Miss Lovely yesterday.

On a different note, looking at Tarak's passion and obsession with sound, I was reminded of a "not so renowned" tabla player from Goa named Khaprumam Parvatkar. His obsession was rhythm and he would keep tracking rhythm 24 hours, even in sleep. In his later years, he had attained such mastery over rhythms that he would track 4 different beats (3, 4, 7, 12 beat structures or Taal) on each hand and leg simultaneously. One famous incident about his was once while travelling in a ferry boat in Goa, he was tracking the beat produced by the boat engine and suddenly he found the engine skipping a beat. He went to the boatman and said something is wrong with your boat as its skipping beat. The boatman obviously ignored and within next 10 minutes, the engine really broke down.

Nice story Kaustubh about Parvatkar
The lead actor has acted really well, some scenes were great such as the one with two cups of tea - one empty & one filled and Tarak's obsession for giving flawless effects and the one where Tarak and his wife are on a trail while on vacation and he tries to match her footsteps

Overall quite engrossing experience

what did you make of "in shantineiketan"?
am not really able to tie all the threads together -  the caricaturised characters, the use of only two locations ( from what i remember), the references to brecht.
it seemed to me an allegory - the constant play of invasions into, delusions of and passions of the mind  - i may have missed something else.
the backdrop of the 150 year celebration was a nice idea; some of the actors did not deliver

well Madhuri, i think it was trying to show the political-social instability that the state of west bengal is going through. the state as a machinery is functioning in such a way that is leading to a state confusion among the citizens. this confusion among the behavior of the character is very much prominent. shantiniketan means an abode of peace. that peace is constantly under threat. at the same time shantiniketan- the birth place of Tagore, also has a significance. Tagore and his work is put in high regards. the people he has made proud of even couldnt save his valuable noble prize from getting stolen. we get to hear some of his poems in this film in a different tone from the actor dhritiman chatterjee. i think that is like a voice of God.
I would like Indranil sir, to explain more on it....
Regards Pooja

read a review of the ship of theseus. felt privileged to have watched it prior to the release. :)
agree with the reviewer that it is to be watched at least twice - once to enjoy, and then again , to cherish it.

link to a telugu short film. wanted to watch something new. tryin to explore other languages.
nice attempt by an amateur (I am guessing). nice little twist in the end. and the dialogue carries it forward. histrionics and gesticulations could have been toned down, though.
