Wout, could you forward my errant message to the "future" thread?
Cheers, Pit

Sure Pete, here it is. I can't reply to the original "future of Face"
thread either, don't know why. I started a new thread for this reason.

It appears that in Europe - especially Germany - things that are not
'high-tech' or complex enough, tend to be put down. Hence, the
emphasis on precision scale. I agree wholeheartedly with Wout about
the problem for beginners. I'm personally more interested in sport
(dime?) scale and sport flying in general, tho with a smidgen (VERY
little) arm-twisting I would be persuaded to attend a meet. I would
love to attend OpenScale as at least a spectator this year, but
financial pressures prohibit such a trip.

Back in February, I showed up at my flying patch (RC) with a couple of
gumband models. The amount of snickering about "Pete and his TOY
planes was almost embarassing - till I walked to the middle of the
field during a lull and released my Guillow's LANCER. When I turned
around, ALL snickering had stopped and most jaws were on the ground!
A number of people asked me about these 'toys' (I also had my
Guillow's SKYRAIDER which I also flew) and were totally shocked when I
told them that the planes HAD TO BE BUILT WITH BALSA STICKS AND
TISSUE!! Some were actually interested.

I'm curious as to how many scale modelers actually are here in
Germany. I think we can be counted on one hand. I do hope that this
site opens some doors (and minds).

later, Pete

Pete,
very brave of you to fly your rubber models in front of the enemy. And
a very well written report! In the Netherlands I don't know of any FF
outdoor scale modellers. There are somewhere between 20 and 50 indoor
FF scale modellers but they are very surprised to see it is possible
to fly FF scale models outside.
