Hi all,

I was just invited to the mailing list. I was wondering what exactly
the topic of discussion is for this mailing list. How does this differ
from the open manufacturing mailing list? Is this something different?
Am I intruding on something that I haven't known about?

Hi all,

This mailing list is intended to coalesce a lot of the discussions
that have been taking place in the Fab Lab realm for a long time and try
to bring them together in one place.

Frosti and I were discussing this today and arrived at the conclusion
that it's high time we had a working mailing list that everybody could
chime in on, and just took initiative and made it. Hopefully that's okay
with you.

This differs from Open Manufacturing in style but not substance: while
OM (for short) is about manufacturing methods and techniques and the
technology, with a very strong emphasis on the philosophy and the
economics (so far)... however, this list, I hope, will be more concerned
with the Fab Labs themselves, and how the infrastructure they provide
can be better utilized. So here we should share projects and ideas and
models and all that, but also educational material, operational advice
and guidelines, and anything that can help.

This is also a very good place to post announcements of all sorts, for
example competitions, breakthroughs, and that kind of thing.

This sounds like a great idea. Thanks for inviting me in. Maybe some
of the experiences from the atxfab (fabratory) could be useful in
these discussions. I'll see what I can offer. I hope to hear some
tales of other fablabs around the world however!
