Hi all,
I thought I'd send a quick note to point out Polydron. It's a pressfit
geometry system made in England[1] that we've found very useful in
teaching 3D design and abstract geometry here at our lab. We used it
mostly while making our Sculpture System no. 5 deployment[2] a couple of
months ago to allow participants to prototype and suggest designs for
sculptures.
Polydron functionality can be fairly easily emulated to a certain
degree with GIK, although GIK has fixed angles wheras polydron is
flexible. As such, having a polydron set around could be valuable as an
introduction to why ideas like GIK are important.
