To criticise something a person wrote, or the way they market themselves,
is not the same as saying that everything that comes out of there mouth is
crap. After all nearly all of the information these people give (sell) is
based on ideas from other people, how many of them at least acknowledge
that?
>STUFF I HAVE TRIED AND HAS WORKED.
so is this then to say that everything they say or write is gold because it
worked for you or your friends? is all of their work beyond criticisms and
review? ask Dr Siff ANY question about what he writes (cue for chad!!) and
he will back it with more than - because that's the right way, i've found
that works best etc. There will be scientific references, references from
other coaches and professionals, links to websites, and when that doesn't
exist - a theory based in physiology / biomechanics or another related
discipline.

have you tried anything dr siff has recommended?

well maybe you should look harder!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have you considered that he
may not give any of these high profile coaches a rap directly because they
aren't really saying anything that new?
>I have none of your degrees or experience.
not too many people do!

>but for some

maybe that is your interpretation and not his intention? how many ideas
does dr siff claim as his own? or do you always see a recommendation and
tip related back to a study, athlete, coach , russian peasant, or figure
from history? ie. giving credit where credit is due ?
>Do us a favor write out a routine for us avarage guys.
do me a favour and get Charles poliquin to write back to me FOR FREE!!!
for a year and a half i've been sending charles e-mails at testosterone.net
regarding an inconsistency in polliquin principles, yet he always finds
time for simple things like why can't my biceps grow??
on page six he disagrees with arthur jones. he disagrees that '...overload
should be done in the performance of sets of at least six full repetitions
and not more than 20 full repetitions'. yet on page15 he states that the
loading parameters for hypertrophy should be between 6 and twenty reps (and
references himself to top it off).
now following your (il)logic, we shouldn't bag charles or ask questions of
him because his program worked for you????? we should let this slide
because charles is the master trainer????? or doesn't it matter since this
is just being technical and the average reader can only just work out 2+2?
>Instead of sitting back and taking shots at what others have written.Write
>something I can do and understand.
have you read facts and fallacies of fitness? it's really not that hard a
read. if not should dr siff write a book and send it to you before it's
printed to ensure that you can understand it??????
>Write me a routine for gaining size with
>limited fat naturally. All these other guys can so can you with out delving
>into all sorts of studies.
of course he can, but he chooses to support his theories/beliefs with
studies, as well as acknowledge those who have provided us with this
information, and not pass it off as his own.
>Remember KISS keep it simple stupid.
you said it!
>Well that
>works for me
>
> We who read these sites do not need to know the theory's of math, or
>abstratc algabra but only that 2+2 = 4.
please speak for yourself, it's only by understanding the underlying
theories and reasons, that we can accept or reject, move forward and
improve - as opposed to just being told what to do and follow blindly.
>Thank God for King, Check, Staley
>and Poliquin they have got me into the best shape in my life.
but even these guys disagree with each other at times, so who do you listen
to? do you base it on who has the biggest arms? the most impressive resume
or the roll of the dice? - don't you want to know
why they say what they say?
what about joe weider, you didn't mention him once - has he helped you to
improve? i, like many, have started lifting with flex + muscle and fitness
and made great gains - but i still ain't giving him a wrap for being a
genius, and i still laugh when other trainers sledge him or argue with his
theories. do you defend joe (or a pro bodybuilder) when master polliquin
picks holes in their writing? i would suggest that joe weider has helped
MANY more people get in shape than all of the trainers you mentioned - so
you should change religious figureheads!
>could sit back and say it wont work because of this or that study so I will
>just stay on the couch.
do you mean sit on the fence? i think you'll find that dr siff does have
many training philosophies - and if you'd ever had your ass kicked all over
the gym by a fifty something man, who recently had a quadruple bypass plus
other physically limiting factors as i did when he visited australia, you
soon wish you had stayed on the couch.

Does anyone have this book that they are willing to part with? I need to
try this before I decide on surgury.
I ordered it from Amazon 7 weeks ago and still nothing... The local
Borders store says it could take anywhere between 4-12 weeks to get it...
I can't find it anywhere.

This sounds like Leo Costa's stuff. I trained like the Bulgarians years
ago. I worked out up to six times per day. My American coaches were under
the misguided belief that this type of training would improve our lifts.
It worked but my joints ached all the time and my muscles were in a
constant state of soreness. Years later, on my own, I cut back my OL
workouts to 2-3 per week total. My lifts increased so fast that my lifting
friends wanted to know what I was taking.
I relay this personal account to put things into perspective. It is
possible to train like the Bulgarians, but the real question is, Is it
necessary? I think a short 2-3 week cycle may be OK at some point.
Training all the time like that is ridiculous. For my friends that
followed this routine with an application towards bodybuilding, they swore
that it worked, yet from my perspective I didn't see any improvements.
Give it a try and record your progress. If it works great, if it doesn't
at least you will learn what your body can handle.

Ray:
It is obvious that you are upset. Mel will do a great job of defending
himself and rather than get caught up in a heated battle, I would like to
add another perspective. If you already know something and I tell you it,
have I increased your knowledge base at all? I may have given you
confidence or vaolidated what your prevous thoughts were, but essentially
you are right where you started. I think one of the greatest benefits of
the internet is that people from all levels and backgrounds can interact.
If you follow a routine and it helps you achieve your goal or goals, that
is absolutely fantastic. After all how many people train in the gym and
look the same or perform the same after years of training (in my mind too
many)? Now since the routine worked for you, it would seem logical that
the theories behind it working are correct. This will remain so, until
someone challanges them. Later on, you may find out the theories were
flawed. This doesn't change the fact that you made gains or progress, it
simply means that the reasons you suspected for your results were
inaccurate. Now you are in a position to improve your training further and
make even more progress. How can this be a bad thing? If you look at
ideas as tools it really helps. You will never use them all at one time.
You may even use one idea now, later find a better idea, only to leave it
aside to use that old idea from years ago.
One thing I would like to share is that during internet debates (ie with
Lyle McDonald over intact protein absorption), I have actually learned a
tremendous amount. It forces you to reread studies more critically and
either strengthen your position or rethink your position. the end result is
movement towards the truth (whatever that is). Isn't that what it's all
about, just finding out what is the truth?

If you have access to a computer, I suggest getting an MP3 player.
Whether you download songs from Napster or go the legit way and record
your own CDs into MP3's, it's a convenient way to access and maintain
your music and make quick new mixes often.
But moving on to your question of some good music to work out to, here's
some songs off my standard workout music rotation:
Bombtrack, Killing in the Name of, Freedom, Guerilla Radio, Take the
Power Back (all by Rage Against the Machine)
Bawitaba, Cowboy, Bull God, American Bad Ass (Kid Rock)
Firestarter, Smack My Bitch Up (Prodigy)
Sweet Dreams, The Beautiful People (Marilyn Manson)
99 Ways to Die, Symphony for Destruction, Skin O My Teeth, Paranoid
(Megadeth)
AstroCreep 2000 (White Zombie)
Living Dead Girl, Dragula (Rob Zombie)
Wish, Head Like a Hole, Perfect Drug (Nine Inch Nails)
All in the Family, Make Me Bad (Korn)
Oh My God, Welcome to the Jungle, Get in the Ring (Guns n Roses)
Eye of the Tiger (Surviver)
[So I'm in Canada a few years back and I'm using the Gold's up there.
Some local bodybuilder getting ready for a contest (sweats in June)
and his training partner had monopolized the tape player and they
had a tape that was nothing but "Eye of the Tiger" over and over and
over. One of the club employees finally stopped the insanity. -MTS]

and I'll be happy to put together an even longer list for you to work with.

I've had it done -- the Dr. did not say anything about avoiding
exercise. Squinting and straining expressions around the eyes might be
good to be avoided for a few days. I was not supposed to get water in
my eyes, so the sweat avoidance advice seems good, but that was just for
a few days (I think). It turned out pretty good, vision wise, and there
are better machines now.
When they turned on the slicer machine and started to that takes a slice
-- I just absolutely freaked out -- it was all I could do to not jump up
and bolt. The second eye, my internal systems seemed to have learned
that it was not life threatening.
It also can sting and burn like you wouldn't beleive -- an hour or so
later, and last for 4-5 hours. Take whatever pain stuff they give you.
Get some total black-out night shades, to cover your eyes -- when I cut
out ALL light it really seemed to help things to settle down (of course
I have no, and pardon the pun, 'double blind' studies to back that up!)
Hope that's helpful,
Allen
