Tell us about your exercise. What are you doing those 5-6 days a
week? All weight lifting? other things too?

i had a similar problem. my hip joint got so bad i was walking with a
limp. i finally went to a chiropractor. the range of movement in my right
hip joint was severely less than my left. i can't remember exactly what
had happened (this was 2 or 3 years ago), but the gist was that tissues in
the joint area were all inflamed from using improper form with the squat,
and a lack of flexibility.

he told me to spend a few days resting, and apply ice, 10 minutes on, 20
minutes off, and repeat. within three days the problem was gone.

watch your technique, and do stretching movements. the one he suggested is
to lie down on your back and bring your knee into your chest, one leg at a
time.

I'm getting alot of stretch marks around the lower back area. Is that the
result of improper weight training or from heavy weight lifting? How can I
reduce the amount of stretch marks as a result of weight training?

Eric:

Congratulations on your weight loss. Since most people regain weight that
they lose, you still have a battle on your hands. the easiest way to
prevent yourself from regaining weight and/or to add muscle is to do some
type of progressive resistance exercise program. What have been you been
doing so far (training wise)? What was your nutritional strategy like? Did
you take any medications to assist with the weight loss? Do you have any
clinical conditions? With this info it will be easier to make some specific
suggestions.

Subject: Weight Training for Fitness?
From: David Walsh <dwa...@post.its.mcw.edu>
Date: Sun, 6 Aug 2000 23:08:06 -0700

Hi all: This is an open question to anyone who cares to reply. Most of
what I see written concerning weight training seems to be for strength
athletes who seek a maximum lift or lifts or bodybuilders who seek a
combination of size and aesthetic shape. There is less, it seems, on the
use of weight training -resistance training, perhaps- for enhancing
fitness and performance in other sports. So, can anyone point me in the
right direction for sites, publications, books, etc? Thanks for any help
you can give.

Subject: Polquin Information
From: chris_th...@hotmail.com
Date: Sun, 6 Aug 2000 23:06:16 -0700

Here's my theory on why Poliquin left T-mag1- With all the
recent supplements claims by Biotest, Charles began to see
the dawn of a new "Muscle Media" fiasco (most of
you will remember that this once "harcore and
edgy" publication turned into a
wide-public-pleasing-softcore-supplement-ad magazine). And
just like he did the first time, Charles left before his
name could be associated with fraudulent claims and thus
lose his reputation.

2. As most of you will know, Charles is pretty expensive! He
charges a lot for personal training sessions and I suspect
that his article-writing fees are relatively high too. When
they needed a big name to launch their magazine, T-mag was
willing to pay him. But now that they are well-known they
began to refuse his fee demand. And to seek out new, less expensive writers.

3. Poliquin and Chek are currently in the midst of a personal
vendetta. They used to be good friends and work together,
but recently something went wrong and they are in
conflict. As a result Poliquin doesn't want anything to do
with Chek and vice-versa. I could see how T-mag approached
Chek for a series of articles and how Chek refused to write
anything for them as long as Poliquin was there. Not
surprisingly, the week after the departure of Poliquin,
Chek has a new series of article on T-mag!

4. Poliquin might have begin to see Ian King as a menace to
his reputation. King, on numerous occasions went against
Poloquin's recommendations and King seems to be hot right
now, so peoples are listening to him a lot more than
Poliquin would like. As a result, T-mag pushed King to take
advantage of the fact that he is a "hot item" right now. Poliquin
might have felt that he was now No.2 and he couldn't accept that.

SOME INTERESTING FACTS

a) TC (or Tim) said that Poliquin was
leaving T-mag because he had not enough time to write. Yet,
less than 1 week after his official separation with T-mag
Poliquin had a *NEW WEB SITE UP AND RUNNING!!!*
Call me crazy, but doesn't putting up a new web site requires slightly more
time than writing one article every 2 weeks?

b) I find it interesting that right after Poliquin left,
Charles Staley began to write for T-mag ... Many of you
will remember that Staley was the one who took over
Poliquin's column in Muscle Media!

c) Face it. T-mag is lying through their teeth! First they
state that androsol works like Sustanon (beats the old HMB
feels like Deca bit!). Then they cling to their story that
Poliquin left because he didn't have enough time to write
anymore ... despite evidence to the contrary!

So IMHO Poliquin wasn't seen as necessary anymore by T-mag so
they started pushing other writers. Poliquin was not
necessary because a) their name was made b) he was
expensive c) he prevented the arrival of new writers d) he
started to question the integrity of Biotest.

So T-mag began to slowly push Poliquin out of the way, working on
enhancing King's image. Then they refused to pay him his
fee or they had a fight about it. Poliquin felt betrayed by
T-mag (as most of us should) because he saw that they were
downplaying him and because he saw that T-mag was becoming
the second coming of Muscle Media. So Poliquin left. That's my theory!

Yes, Uxo, Gold's in Venice is a very cool gym. Presently under
renovation, machines are found in some very odd places and if you find it
there one day, you'll probably have to hunt it down the next time you're
looking for it. Just did a front squat workout on the Icarian rack that
you've seen on the cam. What a fantastic piece of equipment! Jim and I
have discovered some marvelous machines there as well. Strive is
tremendous as is some of the old Nautalus equipment. The place is like a
beehive but a fantastic place to catch a workout. I've rejoined the
list and am somewhat settled in, although I'll be moving again over the
next week to a larger apartment with a better parking situation. Venice
has two cons -- unbelieveably tight parking and garbage trucks that make
their way down Speedway (the alley behind the Boardwalk) at 6 a.m. seven
days a week. I've never seen so many garbage cans and dumpsters in my
life and they always seem to be full. Hell, a bum can't even get a decent
night's sleep in one although several usually try. So far, we really love
our new home. We've been out on the beach almost every evening watching
the sunset. Went swimming for the first time today; water is on the
chilly side but quite clear. What surprised me the most is the fact that
traffic in Santa Monica/Venice/Marina del Rey is not nearly as bad as I
would have thought. Easy to get around. Shopping is fantastic. The
restaurants are superb. Everyone is laid back and friendly. What a great
place. So far it's been a wonderful move for us except we don't seem to
remember what day it is. Glad to be back on the Weights list and
reconnect with old e-mail friends. Rosemary Wedderburn
