THE FACULTY OF ARTS

The Faculty is one of six faculties of the University, the
others being Asian Studies, Economics and Commerce,
Engineering and Information Technology, Law and Science.  The
Faculty of Arts at present offers courses leading to pass and
honours qualifications and has a number of named degrees: in
Art History and Curatorship, Development Studies, European
Studies, International Relations and Policy Studies.  At the
postgraduate level, the Faculty offers a range of courses
leading to graduate diplomas in Arts and the degree of Master
of Arts.  Supervision is also offered for the research
degrees of Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy.

The Faculty of Arts has four schools: Archaeology &
Anthropology, Humanities (Art History, Film Studies, English,
Theatre Studies, Philosophy and Gender, Sexuality and
Culture), Languages (Classics, Modern European Languages and
Linguistics), and Social Sciences (Political Science and
International Relations, Sociology, History and Religious
Studies).  It also includes two research centres: the
Australian National Dictionary Centre and the Centre for Arab
and Islamic Studies (the Middle East and Central Asia).

THE UNIVERSITY

The ANU consists of eight Research Schools, in the Institute
of Advance of Studies, and six Faculties.  The University has
a university-wide Graduate School and twelve newly-created
National Institutes, through which close co-operation between
relevant sections of the university is being encouraged,
specially through teaching and joint supervision of
postgraduate students.

The Humanities Research Centre is formally a University
Centre, but has considerable interaction with the Faculty of
Arts, as does the Centre for Cross-Cultural Research, an ARC
Special Research Centre.

At the beginning of 1992 the Canberra Institute of the Arts
(consisting of the School of Music and the School of Art) was
incorporated into the ANU.

The ANU Library provides for the major undergraduate research
needs.  Its holdings are extensive.  The National Library of
Australia is nearby, with supplementary holdings in many
relevant areas.

The ANU has excellent computer facilities and all Philosophy
staff have personal computers and dedicated access to the
University network.
