Hi, I'm in a hurry, I have a problem and I need your help.

I have a mail server and recently two users can't read their
mail. This message appears:

Could not log in to the mail server
The server responded:

being read already /usr/spool/mail/samis

please, enter a new password for user samis@...

So, please, did you ever have a problem like this? How can I resolve
it?

Thank you very much.

sounds like the account mailbox is locked by another process. I've seen
this with ipop3d left hanging for several minutes, or in fact the user *is*
reading their mail at another location, either on purpose, running another
client, or by proxy (un-authorized user, compromised account).

Darn. Find the offending process, stop it, and the box should be open for use.

It could be that their connection was interrupted while they were accessing
their mailbox using pop - check with 'ps axu | grep <username>' for stale
connections when you get this error.

Kill the hung process if that is the case...

What distribution of Linux are you using ? Most of Linux distributions
generate a lock file (e.g. lock.account, ... or /tmp/.pop/useraccount) when
an account is locked.
