Hi,
I am currently working on a Linux based network testbed and i am
trying to use Netspec to generate traffic. I am having all sorts of
problems trying to get it to work, this is what i've got:
1. I have 2 pcs running RH 7.0 (by the end i intend for about 15 pcs!)
2. I've copied the redhat 5 binaries into the /usr/local/bin directory
(i've found rh6.2 binaries but have had even more problems, so won't
bother with that now)
3. Copied netspec.conf to the /etc directory
4. modified /etc/services and /etc/xinetd.conf as per the user manual

Tried to re-compile the make files but can't really say i know what
i'm doing, it keeps stopping at error[1]s, get past a few but then i
get stuck.

Ok, so now i reboot the pcs and try netstat -ta to see if its running
but its not there. So this is what i do;

On localhost 3 i type:
netspecd -s 192.168.3.13 -p 42003

netspec (in another window)

netstat -ta (now its running)

On localhost 13 :
netspecd -s 192.168.3.3 -p 42003

netspec tcp.single (where tcp.single is a simple test script i
copied and modified from the manual)

Once i do this, localhost 13 says daemons are ready on both pcs
however the filename is to long and apparently there is a broken
pipe..then it stops.

So heres the question: Has anyone got the binaries for redhat 7.0 (or
7.2)? Am i doing anything wrong - or right!!? (I'm really new to
Linux, this is my Birmingham Uni group project and the first time i've
used it).

Any help would be appreciated, a lot!

Cheers. David Humphreys
