gratuitous arping problem

I use arping -U from my host to update a new MAC address for IP (I
have a virtual IP moving from one host to another), but when I type
"arp -n" on a neighboring host I don't see the new entry of my
original host.
Is there any special configuration that I should do to make my host
update its cache? (both hosts run linux 2.4.*)
