Where can I locate information and drivers on using USB with Kernel 2.2.x? I am unable to locate any information on the LDP mirrors.

No support there that I am aware of -- it would be a massive hack to
patch usb support into the 2.2.x kernel - although it is possible
that someone might have actually done this. And even then, I
wouldn't trust its stability or functionality.

Use the (pre-) 2.4.x kernels, the support for it is now there by
default. Last time I looked, usb support was coming along very
nicely indeed (it seemed to work quite well - although I didn't test
it very much). You might need to upgrade some other system packages
for using the 2.4.x kernels, but this shouldn't be too much of a
drama. (I didn't bother when I was looking at the pre-2 version
release).

Good luck.

Cheers
Tony

Then I suppose you are unaware of this:

http://www.suse.cz/development/usb-backport/

It's a backport of the 2.4 usb drivers into the 2.2 kernel.
Currently it's backporting 2.4.0-test2-pre2 for 2.2.16.

Attached below is the announcement message...

Hi!

I've updated the USB backport to 2.2.16 and 2.4.0-test1-ac21. You can get
it at the usual location: http://www.suse.cz/development/usb-backport/

It has added (experimental) support for APM, contains CPiA 1.0 code and
fixes some module loading problems with the serial driver.

It's not tested very thoroughly, because I wanted to release it as soon
as possible. If you find any bugs, please report them to me, and I'll
fix them as soon as I can.

Enjoy.
