Well the plastic fingers that rub on the fusing drum (under the green
fuzzy) finally wore through the teflon, causing dark vertical streaks on
the output. Only fix is to replace the entire fusing assembly, $205 +
very expensive labor. While tech is fiddling with paperwork, I ask
about the "100,000 page overhaul" (since this was at the 68k page mark).
He said that such an overhaul doesn't exist, and you throw away the
print engine at 100,000 pages - compared it to a BIC lighter. I found
this distressing to hear, and wonder what the truth is.

Also asked about filing down the little plastic fingers so that they
don't scratch the teflon. Apparently, the fingers must stay sharp
enough to "scrape" the paper off the drum, so filing has little
usefulness. Seems like a dumb design to me, but it was probably cheap.

Oh yes, the fusing assembly was on back-order for about 3 weeks - get
your orders in before the Christmas rush starts!
