I have a friend who is an iaidoka. Recently, he asked
me to help translate the kata is studies into kanji. I
have been successful with everything *except* the 12
kata set of Shindo Munen Ryu. There is remarkable lack
of information available on the web about it (or if
there is, it has eluded my best efforts to find it!)
So, I was hoping someone on this list would happen to
know what the kata of SMR translate into, either
literal (preferred) or figurative. Also, if you happen
to know the kanji off hand, I have copies of NTC
(Halpern) and New Nelson's kanji dictionaries, and
would appreciate the references if you have them.
Moreover, if you happen to know someone in particular
who is knowledgable in this area and who would be
willing to assist me, that would be great! In
addition, any resources (printed or otherwise) on this
subject you could point me to would also be
appreciated.
For your information, here are the kata names as I
have them:
1) iwanami
2) ukifune gaeshi
3) nouarashi gaeshi
4) utsusemi
5) matsukaze
6) zangetsu hidari
7) zangetsu migi
8) dotou gaeshi
9) raito gaeshi
10) you tou
11) in tou
12) inazuma gaeshi
Also, if you happen to know the following SMR kata
from the Keishi Ryu set as well...
musogaeshi
Arigatou. Yoroshiku.
