Hi all

Does anyone know where I can find the names for the first few kata from
Katori Shinto Ryu Kenjutsu?

TIA

Jean

"Nuki stuke no ken", "Nuki uchi no ken"...sounds more like their iai set
than kenjutsu.

These are the names of the iai kata:

kusa nagi no ken
nuki tsuke no ken
nuki uchi no ken
uken
saken
happo ken

These are the names of the two first tachi iai kata:

yuki ai gyaku nuki no tachi
zengo chidori no tachi

(then there are yuki ai migi chidori no tachi,
gyaku nuki no tachi and nuki uchi no tachi)

I do not know the names of the ken kata, which we refer to as the
omotedachi syllabus,
as we only call them ikkajo, nikkajo, etc. I know there are "proper names"
(e.g. ikkajo is Isutzu no tachi (sp?), I suddenly fervently hope), and they
are all given in Otake sensei's "The deity and the sword".
Perhaps someone on the list has these books, and is willing to open them?

Otake Risuke's three-volume series on TSKSR (translated by Donn Draeger as
*The Deity and the Sword*) lists the names of many of the kata.

Hi All

Thanks for all the input w.r.t. KSR kata names. Now 2 questions.

1 What does Kajo mean?
2 Does the Deity and the Sword 'show' all the kata... i.e. are there
pictures for us intellectually challenged individuals?

Thanks

Jean

Cool quote of the week

"Karate is a form of martial arts in which people who have had years and
years of training can, using only their hands and feet, make some of the
worst movies in the history of the world."
